California's Route 36336. Route 36 is from Route 101 near Alton to Route 395 near Johnsonville passing near Forest Glen via Red Bluff and Mineral, via the vicinity of Morgan Summit, and via Susanville.
Route 36 from: (a) Route 5 at Red Bluff to Route 395. (b) Route 139 north of Susanville to Route 395 near Termo. [CS&HC Sec. 253.3]
Around 1970, portion (a) of Route 36 was discontinuous at Route 5 near Red Bluff passing near Forest Glen and Peanut. The following portion was from Route 5 at Red Bluff to Route 395. Eventually, Route 36 would be a continuous route from Route 101 to Route 395. In 1998, portion (b) from Route 139 north of Susanville to Route 395 near Termo was deleted.
Route 36 from: (a) Route 101 near Alton to Route 3 near Peanut. (b) Route 89 near Morgan Summit to Route 89 near Deer Creek Pass. [CS&HC Sec. 263.3]
Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park is about 30 miles east of Alton and Route 101. It's quite small from what I've noted, or so, compared to the other state parks in here. Lassen Volcanic National Park is also in the vicinity of the route. Just look for Route 89 right around Route 172 (NOT around Lake Almanor!) and follow it to the north.
East of Chester near Lake Almanor is a rest area to the north side of the road. This one though is closed in the wintertime. Susanville, near the route's eastern end, is the county seat of Lassen. Wow! California State Highways (Pull-down) California State Highways (Tables) The Main Page
