(c) Route 5 to Route 152 via the vicinity of Mendota. (d) Route 152 west of Los Banos to Route 5 near Santa Nella. (e) Route 5 near Santa Nella to Route 140. (f) Route 140 to Route 5 near Vernalis. 333.1. Notwithstanding Section 253.3, no portion of the adopted Route 33 freeway between Foster Park and Cozy Dell Canyon Road shall be constructed as a freeway or expressway until a transportation corridor study, on a transportation corridor approximating such portion of the adopted Route 33 freeway, is undertaken and carried to a conclusion by the department in cooperation with the affected local governing agencies, including the County of Ventura and the City of Ojai, and a plan of action for fulfilling the corridor transportation needs has been mutually agreed upon by the parties conducting the study. The transportation corridor study shall, when undertaken, follow a process which includes community involvement and participation in reaching a finding on the transportation needs, and in selection of the optimum means of fulfilling those needs, for the corridor and its related service area. F&E System Route 33 from: (a) Route 101 near Ventura to Route 150. (b) Route 150 to Route 166 near Maricopa. (c) Route 152 west of Los Banos to Route 5 near Santa Nella. [CS&HC Sec. 253.3] History I believe Route 33, part (a), was once Route 399. This route ran on this part of Route 33 but eventually made it to Route 99 in Bakersfield. Scenic Route 33 from: (a) Route 101 near Ventura to Route 150. (b) Route 150 to Route 166 in Cuyama Valley. (c) Route 198 near Coalinga to Route 198 near Oilfields. [CS&HC Sec. 263.3] Notes Part (a) of Route 33 is also both part of the F&E System and a scenic highway. What a thought! There's also Taft Union High School there in, where else, Taft. There once was a Route No. 33. One day, as it was going north from Coalinga, he (or her or it for all we know) catched a glimpse of Route 5. It was love at first sight! So Route 33 asks Route 5 if he could come along. Route 5 said she was more than welcome. And so the two ran away for a few miles. On the way however Route 33 met this dame named Derrick Av. He eventually ran away with her to Los Banos. This disappointed Route 5 very much. A few miles later, Route 33 broke up with Derrick Av. The memory of the good times with Route 5 saddened him. And so, with a little help from Route 152, he went to Route 5 to ask for mercy and forgiveness. When Routes 33 and 152 got to her, Route 33 gave his plea for forgiveness, but Route 5 refused, largely because he broke up with her. So Route 33 went off his way. And Route 5 went on hers. He asked if Route 152 would help him again, but Route 152 said that he had to go to Gilroy. So Route 33 was all by himself. He caught up with Route 5 in Santa Nella and once again asked for forgiveness. Again, Route 5 refused. This time, Route 5 was starting to feel annoyed, and so she sped off. And Route 33 continued on in failure. Once Route 5 gave birth to Route 580, she went to look for Route 33 to reconcile. Route 33 actually found her near Vernalis. But for some reason Route 5 got angry at Route 33 and so killed him. And that's the story of Route 33. California State Highways (Pull-down) California State Highways (Tables) The Main Page
