California's Route 299

599.  Route 299 is from:
   (a) Route 101 near Arcata to Route 5 at Redding via Weaverville.
   (b) Route 5 at Redding to Route 395 at Alturas.
   (c) Route 395 near Alturas to the Nevada state line via
Cedarville.


      Route 299 from:
   (a) Route 101 near Arcata to Route 5 at Redding.
   (b) Route 5 at Redding to Route 395 at Alturas.


      This route used to be federally funded, therefore it was named U.S. 299 and had a nice,
pointy white sign.  Thanks to the legislative changes of 1964, it's no longer a federal route.


      Route 299 from:
   (a) Route 101 near Arcata to Route 96 near Willow Creek.
   (b) Route 3 near Weaverville to Route 5 near Redding.
   (c) Route 89 near Burney to Route 139 near Canby.


      Eureka!  No, not the town that's near where Route 299 starts but the unusual motto of California.
And that's another thing that makes this state so gifted.
      Route 5 and Redding is the midway point of Route 299.  Somewhere, there's the Best
Western Hospitality House Hotel on the way.
