California's Route 243

Route 243 is from Route 74 near Mountain Center to Route 10 near Banning. [CS&HC Sec. 543]

History

  • 1964-1968: Route 243 was from Route 10 to Route 210 near Duarte. Route transferred to Route 605.
  • 1970: Current route defined.

    Points of Interest

    Route 243 cuts through the lovely town of Idyllwild, where numerous recreational activities are possible. Here, you will find the Idyllwild Arts Academy, a high school offering training in creative writing, dance, music, and interdisciplinary arts.

    Notes

    This route crosses the southern portion of the San Bernardino National Forest. Its headquarters is located in San Bernardino. On the way, some ranger stations are conveniently located off the route. Vista Grande Station is located six miles south of Route 10. For more information, you can call them at (909)382-2600.
