California's Route 185

Route 185 is from Route 92 in Hayward to Route 77 in Oakland. [CS&HC Sec. 485]

State highway routes embracing portions of Routes 280, 82, 238, 101, 5, 72, 12, 37, 121, 87, 162, 185, 92, and 123 and connecting city streets and county roads thereto, and extending in a continuous route from Sonoma southerly to the international border and near the route historically known as El Camino Real shall be known and designated as "El Camino Real." [CS&HC Sec. 635(b)]

Status

42nd Street west to Route 880 is signed as Route 185 at the northern end of Route 185, even though said portion of 42nd Street is actually Route 77.

    Points of Interest

    At the junction with Routes 238 and 92 in Hayward is the Hayward Area Historical Society Museum. The museum features a local history exhibit that traces Hayward's history back thousands of years to the first residents of the East Bay--the Ohlone people. A Library where you can research topics in local history using government records, newspapers, photographs and books is available. The Corner Store is filled with gifts, books, and Hayward area memorabilia. The museum is wedged between Mission Boulevard (Route 185) and Foothill Boulevard (Route 238) on C Street and has easy access to a BART station.

    The Oakland International Airport, the Network Associates Coliseum (home of the Oakland A's and Raiders), and a BART station serving all of these are located west on Hegenberger Road.

  • Junction of Routes 92 and 238 to High Street and 12th Street in Oakland: California Legal (40-foot KPRA).

    Notes

    Route 185 runs on International Bulevard in Oakland, 14th Street in San Leandro, and Mission Boulevard in Hayward. Several BART stations, serving trains to Fremont and Richmond as well as to San Francisco, are located along the route.
