California's Route 183

    Points of Interest

    At the eastern end of Route 183, you'll meet the city of Salinas, home of the famous author John Steinbeck. He is immortalized through the Steinbeck House, which is his birthplace and includes a restaurant and a gift shop, as well as the National Steinbeck Center in downtown. Head south on Salinas Street to visit Old Town Salinas, where frequent events, great food and lots of shopping await you. The California Rodeo Grounds, where the California Rodeo is held every third weekend of July, is past Route 183's end at Route 101 on Main Street.

    If in Salinas you go south on Salinas Street for four blocks, you will see Route 68 at John Street. You can follow Route 68 south to the Monterey peninsula.
