From Route 5, it is suggested that this route goes west to Gilroy and San Jose. It seems like a reasonable shortcut, yet as you continue westward you will dip southward and then quickly northward towards Gilroy. This is the only route from Route 5 to even come close to San Jose, so you don't have much of an alternative if in fact you do want to go there. From Route 33 near Santa Nella to Route 33 in Dos Palos Y, Route 152 is co-signed with Route 33. Signs on Route 5 at the interchange with Route 152 confirm this.
