The main idea of this chapter is to strengthen our understanding of how we are called to be like Jesus through Matthews gospel. We focus on the countercultural teachings of Jesus. These are shown in the temptation narrative. Jesus refuses the opportunities of instant gratification that the devil suggests. The Beatitudes go against most everything our culture teaches, like being poor in spirit. This is what made Jesus such a revolutionary teacher.
I would like to remember the Beatitudes. I think most things that I question whether or not I should do, the answers can be found in the Beatitudes. They are a very ideal way to live your life. That is why they are so hard to follow. I was recently mourning the death of Andrews sister. Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Mathew 5:4
I would like to remember most of the interpretation of Matthews gospel. Whether we covered it in class or in the book. Sometimes at mass I do not pay as much attention as I should. I am now trying to be more attentive. Certain passages, like the Sermon on the Mount, are now more understood.
How should a Catholic respond if asked "What do you follow more the 10 Commandments or the Beatitudes?"
The social justice that my family is often involved with is Our Ladys Inn. Our Lady's Inn is an emergency shelter for pregnant women in crisis. They help the mother choose life for the unborn child. They will provide shelter for pregnant mothers and their children. There are three goals of the people at Our Lady's Inn. First, the woman will have a healthy baby. They provide nurses and proper baby care instructors. Then the mother will find a job. Whether at Our Lady's Inn or else were. She will receive career classes and counseling. Finally the mother will move into a permanent house. She will explore many different housing alternatives. But upon her leave she will have a stable house. Our Lady's Inn is one of the best alternatives to having a potentially harmful (to the mother) surgery to take the life of a child.
