Ship's Log
(Nov 18-20, 2004 Houston Texas)
Tied up Starboard side to in Freeport Marina. Jim and
I got up early yesterday morning and brought La Trucha down the San Bernard
in the fog. The night before Jim backed her out of her slip; we had a
little solenoid problem with the diesel, so we used a skiff with an outboard
to drag her back in. We left her burning her anchor lights, and tied
up just in front of 2J's porch.
Jim and I left little Jimmy asleep in the apartment before
it got light and we got her underway by throwing off the one dock-line
holding her. We kept the skiff tied alongside in case we needed her, but we
never did. We cruised on down the San Bernard until the Intracostal, where
we dropped the anchor as Jim wanted to wait on the fog to burn off,
before jumping out into the heavy traffic on the Intracostal. Lots of
empty barges pushed up and down by tugs, traveling up and down the
Intracostal. Fog lifted and we arrived at the marina, after dropping
the hook one more time due to another fuel problem.

The lift at the Freeport
Marina, we cruised in threw over some lines and up we went
At the marina we didn't even tie up just drove her over the
straps, as La Trucha was getting her three year survey for insurance. We
untied the skiff and left her tied up while the lift operator took us up,
boat and crew. When she got up to the dock level we jumped off. Mike,
the surveyor, showed up a few minutes later and got started. While he
was conducting the survey, the marina put a man to pressure cleaning
the hull, and to scrapping the hull.
So, today is Saturday, Nov 20 and it's just me and the
La Trucha in this rather nice marina - Marina has excellent facilities for
showering, which I made use of last night. Jim, Jr. decided not to
stay last night as he wanted to e-mail the world 'bout our imminent
departure. Thing is with the way the weather is looking right now,
it's looking rather glum. We'll see, but the little TV I've got here
on La Trucha says we're in trouble, as far as getting out to sea, with lots
of stormy weather moving through the area.
