Ship's Log
(April 26-29, New Orleans Louisiana)
Well Sports fans we're are back in business,
as I write to you, we are in a marina a bit north of New Orleans on Lake Pontchartrain in a small marina, Del Ray, which is just a click or to off
the North shore of the lake up a river. Anyway, the adventure
continues, as La Trucha is back from her winter hiatus. She was
winterized here at the Del Ray Marina. So this time around its just me
and her owner, Jim, who will be taking her out into the Gulf. We've
been busy fixing some minor problems: rerouting some plumbing,
installing a new cockpit VHF radio cord, fueling her up, and washing the
weather deck.
Our plans are to head toward the Lake into the Gulf
turn east and possibly anchor somewhere off shore. Or possibly put
into Pascagoula, Miss. Eventually we hope to use both the Intracoastal
and open water to sail down the west coast of Florida, until we reach Key
West, from there we'll be jumping West to Mexico, and the Yucatan peninsula.
We're hoping to have some good sailing weather - to avoid burning up the
fuel for one thing.
People here in Louisiana have been great.
Jim found a great spot to berth the boat - at $180/month for a 40 foot boat
- try to beat that deal. Weather could not be better, and the few mosquitos
we've seen haven't amounted to much.
So, closing here, next log will be from somewhere
off the coast of Mississippi. Hopefully, we'll be on the hook - no hot
showers for us. Anyway, more will follow.
