WARREN - Stephan Williams loved project cars ebay showing off his rare cars, so he probably builtin dvd players for cars got a kick from the thought of two of his prize pieces being on public display for years to come.
The California man bequeathed two vintage automobiles from his collection to the National canadian mini cars Packard Museum in Warren.
"He wasn't the kind of guy you would think of as soft," said his former fiancee, pedal cars Darlene Mack Hoffmark. "But he extended himself to people. ... I'm not surprised (that he did this)."
Williams, 64, was killed in an accidental shooting last June when he and his stepson confronted an unwanted person at his home, according to heny j cars articles in the Napa Valley Register. His obituary said Williams died while protecting a woman.
No one was charged in the shooting.
This month, the National Packard Museum, used cars in sc 1899 Mahoning Ave. N.W. location, received the two orange-and-cream colored 1956 Packard Caribbean automobiles, two of about 540 made that year, according to the museum. They were shipped from Napa, Calif., from Williams' collection.
The cars, a hardtop and a convertible, came with some swell features for 1956 according, to museum executive director Mary Ann diacast cars Porinchak. They have a feature that keeps the car sitting level when it's parked on bob bunker race cars a grade and they have push-button automatic transmissions.
Brand new, they sold for up customize cars with photoshop to $6,000 from the Earle C. Anthony Dealership, which sold luxury cars in San Francisco.
"For 1956, the Caribbean was the top of the line. It was the luxury model for that year," Porinchak said.
The additions bring the museum's collection of Packards to 13, Porinchak said.
A safety engineer and lifelong collector of Studebakers, Packards and antique Fords, Williams bequeathed the cars to the Warren museum in his will and arranged for them to be shipped across the country. Museum officials believe Williams visited the Warren site during the automobile's centennial in 1999.
Journalists at the Register recalled seeing a long line of antique cars outside Williams' funeral. According to his used cars michigan friends, "Studebaker Steve" was an avid car collector, a gearhead and an engineer who kept a low-profile and dressed in old blue jeans and a cowboy hat.
"He had a huge amount of cigar air filters for cars cars he collected over the years, between 60 and 100 cars. He would show up in something unusual all the time. Hoffmark said she met Williams in the 1960s electric cars when his parents moved in across the street from her. She had a crush on Williams, so she spent much of her time watching him work on cars in his barn. She commented on one online Register story about his death that she learned more about swap meets and how to build an engine than most girls ever get to know.
"I think he valued the quality of something that was well blind spot radar for cars made," she said when asked about his interest in Packards. "He had an interest in preserving that, obviously. He worked to restore and repair things so that it had a lasting interest and value. customized cars I think that's really neat."
The museum, which recently broke ground for a $1 million expansion project, also announced the gift of $10,000 to the museum. The used cars for sale in ct donation is a gift from Roger and Margaret White of San Antonio. Roger White is the grandson of George Weiss, one of the three men who founded the Packard car company in Warren.
Porinchak said the money likely will go toward the museum's endowment.
