Subj: Oxalyl chloride: a synthesis

 Grind 1 mole of anhydrous oxalic acid into a fine powder and mix
thoroughly with 1.92 moles of powdered PCl5 while cooling in an ice bath.
Allow the mixture to slowly come to room temperature and forget it for 2-3
days until it completely liquifies. Distill, collecting the 60-100 C
fraction. Repeat distillations until the phosphorus free pure substance,
bp 63-64 C, is obtained.  Yeilds 45-50%.  Fractionation would most likely
allow a quicker separation but the author made no mention of this.  See
