good night to play hockey. Let’s get

Great
game tonight folks. Everyone knew this
was going to be a tough one. The
defending champs -- the Stingers -- go
head-to-head against the well skilled
Cavemen fighting to secure second place
this season.
1st
period - both teams hustle hard to keep a
scoreless balance the first quarter of
the period. 10:45 on the clock Francis
Albert picks up a sublime tripping call
against good 'ol Jack putting the Stinger
cold in the box for two minutes. The
Cavemen seize the opportunity and convert
the power play through a smooth shot by
Sean Connolly from the careful pass by
John Usich.The Stingers buff up their
"D" to pacify the aggressive
Cavemen while waiting for that perfect
chance to take back that goal. At 5:29 on
the clock the Stingers answer back with
an awesome shot by James Marihart from
steady Dave Cunningham. Both teams hold
each other off till the buzzer.
2nd
period - The Cavemen flex their muscles
with a goal from Gord Macpherson,
scooping up a loose puck in the slot and
ringing it in off the left post. Good 'ol
Jack Regan recorded the assist at 11:46
on the clock. The Stingers keep calm and
disciplined but again the Cavemen go
crazy on them with a fantastic play from
super trio Sean Connolly, Kenny Gray and
Rob Haitani giving the Cavemen an easy 2
point lead!
The
Stingers regroup and assess the situation
and plan to follow-through strong. At 5:33
on the clock the team steps up with
dynamic play and hard hustle in front of
the net giving "no quarter" to
the respected Caveman goalie Eric Penzel.
Kudos to the awesome play and great goal
scored by Mark Allen and assisted by
James Marihart and Dave Cunningham
reducing the Cavemen lead to only one
goal by the end of the 2nd.
3rd
period - The game heats up as both teams
fight it out to take second place. With
the Cavemen in the lead 3-2, the Stingers
play harder. Dave Cunningham takes a
penalty at 13:47, early in the period,
after knocking a Caveman into the Stinger
net. Unfortunately for the Cavemen, they
were unable to get anything else past
goaltender Mark Fassett during the
ensuing 2-minute powerplay and man-advantage
is squandered. Determined, the Stingers
beef-up their discipline and defense, and
put on their A game. At 7:48 of the third
period, in a frantic attempt to clear a
loose puck from in front of Caveman goal,
defenseman Matt Baird wheels and fires a
beauty past his own hapless Caveman
netminder, Penzel. Dave C is credited
with the goal. A mere 34 seconds later,
the Cavemen suffer further misfortune as
a shot from Dave Cunningham ricochets off
the skate blade of Jack Regan and is
redirected into the net. In the space of
one terrible shift, the Cavemen have
relinquished the lead to the hard
charging Stingers. But the Cavemen rally
to answer back with a quick goal from the
dynamic duo Sean and Kenny at 6:47, tying
the score at 4-4.
The
Stingers continue the assault, combining
sharp team play and great saves by
goaltender Mark Fasset. The Stingers put
one on the scoreboard again by Dave
Cunningham, from the technical pass of
James Soutter to take the lead with 5:49
remaining in the 3rd. The pressure is on.
Caveman Jack Regan is called for a
retaliatory tripping penalty after
falling to the ice, with 5:32 left.
Seizing the chance, the Stingers convert
the power play with 4:51 remaining on a
goal from the ripping shot of pointman
Tom Wisted from the top of the faceoff
circle. The Cavemen return fire with an
awesome goal from John Usich closing the
gap to a single goal with 3:11 minutes
left. The Stingers will just not let up
as they continue to finish strong. With 1:29
left, James Marihart adds the insurance
goal with the help of Dave Cunningham and
James Soutter. The Cavemen pull their
goalie but despite the extra attacker,
fail to score and the game ends with a
Stinger victory, tightening their grasp
on second place in the standings.
