Cavemen
loose Behind Valiant effort by Goaltender
Brian "the animal" Sena
By Joe
Balan
      What???
Yes you heard me correctly. In what some
folks are calling the craziest move in
hockey history, Brian "Macho Man"
Sena subbed behind the pipes for a sick
Eric "the Barber" Penzel.
      The
sold out crowd was reminiscent of Wrestle
Mania 3 at the Pontiac Silver Dome, the
same Wrestle Mania 3 that Hulk Hogan did
the unthinkable and body slammed Andre
the Giant.
      While
just like WM3 Brian "the hammer"
Sena did the unthinkable and strapped on
goalie pads that were lent to him by the
Belmont Iceland. If Sena had been an 8
year old kid, the Pads would have been
perfect, but since he is pushing his mid
to late 30's, they seemed more like ankle
protectors. Dawning his regular hockey
skates, which have no padding and sans a
chest protector, Sena enter the walkway
and out onto the ice. The crowd went wild
and the puck was dropped.
      The
first period was a closely contested
fight with Leaping Lanny Sena making some
outstanding saves, along with the
LampLighters Goalie Craig "Junk Yard
Dog" Nash. After one, the score
stood 1-1.
      The
second period was more like a match
between Strike Force and Barry O teamed
up with "Canada's Greatest Athlete"
Iron Mike Sharp. With Rick Martel like
speed and the smarts of Tito Santana,
Daniel Hesselson had a 4-goal second
period that help the Lamp Lighters take a
8-2 lead after 2.
      The
third period was another closely
contested period. Much like the old days
of Bruno Sammartino and his epic battles
against Freddy Blassy, well before he
became classy. In great up and down
action both teams were able to put 2 more
goals on the board. The final buzzer rang
and the score was 10-4.
      After
the game the captain of the Lamp Lighters
was interviewed by the San Mateo Daily
News. "I am almost speechless. I
have been in this game a long time and
have never seen a guy play net with out
chest protection. Either Sena has a chest
of steel or the courage of Paul Orndorff.
Either way, I was very impressed with his
play as well as the ability of the
Cavemen's front office to be able to
convince him that it was a safe and smart
thing to do."
