Meercats
Stun Beavers in OT

For
the second week in a row the Meercats
came from behind to force overtime. This
time, however, the Meercats scored the
winner 1:13 into OT.
In
a closely contested game from the start,
the Beavers jumped out to a 2-1 lead
after one period on the strength of goals
from Phil Bergeron and Doug Gould. During
the second period, Dave Verderosa added
his second of four goals on the night
with Paul Trapani chipping in his second
goal in 2 games. The Beavers, however,
put up 3 goals from 3 different scorers
to create a 2 goal budge over the
Meercats at the end of two.
The
Meercats were aided on defense this night
by super-sub, Bubba Sandford. His puck
control and work on the power play
enabled the Meercats to skate with the
Beavers and stay in the game. Bubba's
assist on the game tying goal by Kris
White, a textbook pass to the high slot
to the late man in the zone was all the
Meercats needed to get the game into OT.
After
Ludo Legrand notched his 2nd of the night
on the power play late in the 3rd period,
it looked like the Meercats would need to
wait another week for their first win.
That goal would be all the Beavers would
score, however. In overtime, strong work
at the point allowed the Meercats to keep
the puck in the zone. Kris white fought
through a check and threw the puck toward
the net. Verderosa was able to get the
heel of his stick on the puck and direct
it through the legs of Ford Goodman for
the game winner.
