Stingers
beat Youngbloods 6-4; Balan ejected

Mark
Allen's hat trick and solid Stingers
defense were enough to overcome the
Youngbloods normally explosive offense in
the 9:30 game Weds night.
After
taking an early 2-0 lead in the second
period on goals by Allen and Francis
Albert, the Youngbloods stormed back with
3 unanswered tallies and led 3-2 at the
end of the period.
But
the Stingers took the lead back in the
third on two more goals by Allen. Paul O'Connor
tied it up with a pretty goal set up by
Andrew Till, but Craig Wallace (subbing
for an injured James Marihart) scored the
game winner just a minute later.
With
only 4:17 left to play, Youngbloods
captain Balan was called for slashing and
was ejected following his verbal outburst
in protest. After a second penalty was
called 11 seconds later, Keith Taylor
provided an insurance goal during the
ensuing 5 on 3 power-play.
With
the win, the Stingers moved to within 1
point of the league leading Youngbloods
and Beavers, and can avoid the
elimination round with another win next
week against the Meercats - unless the
Beavers win on Friday and the Youngbloods
beat the Beavers next week.
