Gerihatricks
Best Meercats 6-4

When
looking at a final score of 6-4 one
wouldn't think this contest was a
goaltenders duel, but in fact it was. Net
minders Mike Phipps and Kane Ng battled
all night long turning back shot after
shot from the opposition, often times in
a spectacular manner.
It
wasn't until in the third period with the
Gerihatricks leading 2-1 that the scoring
broke loose. Up to this point Gord
MacPherson had found the back of the net
twice for The Gerihatricks. Jared
Ginsburg provided the lone tally for the
Cats, outwitting two defenders before
burying his shot.
After
Lilliana Radoshevich of the Meercats tied
the score, Brian Sena put the
Gerihatricks back in the lead. This
seemed to awaken the Meercats and they
responded with a power play goal from
Jared Ginsburg, followed shortly by
Lilliana's second of the evening.
The
Gerihatricks wouldn't be retired so
easily and brought the score back to even
when Andy Han took advantage of a loose
puck lying by his fallen Captain Gord
MacPherson. Gord had been decked while
patrolling the slot and tied up at least
two Meercats in the process.
Gerihatricks
pulled back into the lead minutes later
on a Jim Loucks shot from the point.
Despite heavy pressure from the Meercats
in the closing minutes, this goal would
prove to be the game winner. After the
Cats pulled their goalie, Jim Loucks iced
the win with an empty netter from deep
inside his own zone.
The
Meercats move deeper into the cellar,
while the Gerihatricks keep their hoping
of climbing up the standing alive.
