Youngbloods
beat Gerihatricks with their own cane

In
what could be the game of the year, the
Youngbloods narrowly defeated the
Gerihatricks 4-3 in a hard fought close
game played at Belmont Iceland. Sadly,
the Gerihatricks suffered a "senior
moment" when one of their few
potential goal-scorers, stick handled the
puck into his own net -- a goal that in
the end was the game winner.
Captain
Joe Balan in a post game interview said,
"Jonny Blaze got the game puck after
stopping an onslaught from the
Gerihatricks in the final few minutes of
the game. Determination and a little luck
help us pull this victory off."
For
the last 1:48 min, the Gerihatricks
pulled their goalie, Mike Phipps who had
a great game stopping several breakaways,
and kept the play mostly in the
Youngbloods end. Despite winning a couple
of draws in front of Blaze and peppering
him with shots, the Gerihatricks were
unable to convert to tie it up again.
Captain Gord Macpherson of the
Gerihatricks after blocking a hard shot
aimed at Jonny Blaze, was heard to say,
"Ow..... I'm getting too old for
this."
Balan
said into the gathered press microphones,
"The Gerihatricks have one of the
most respected front offices in the
league and they are always able to put
together a great game plan. We were
fortunate to skate away with the victory.
It was a much different outcome than when
we first met early on in the season."
To which, Macpherson muttered, "Huh?
What? Who, us?"
