Meercats
surpass the Youngbloods in a scoring
frenzy

The
defending Summer-2006 Champions Meercats
opened the Fall season against the
expansion team - Youngbloods. But don't
let the name to fool you. The core of
this new team is the same as the Four
Play's, the team that finished first in
the previous regular season and later was
knocked out by the Meercats in playoffs
semifinal.
The
Meercats started where they left off last
season by jumping to a quick 2:0 lead on
goals by Jared Ginsburg and Dave
Verderosa. The Meercats’ domination
continued until the end of the period,
which ended 3:1 (Jared Ginsburg –
Joe Balan).
In
the second, the Youngbloods turned things
around by scoring 3 unanswered goals and
grabbing the lead - Joe Balan added 2
more goals while defenseman Larry Waxman
recorded his first of the year.
At
the start of the last frame the Meercats
quickly evened the score on Dave
Verderosa's second of the night. But
halfway through the period when the
Youngbloods were shorthanded Joe Balan
struck once again bringing his goals
total to 4. Such turn of events shocked
the Meercats and it seemed as they won't
be able to recover. Nevertheless they
continued to pressure and then something
unexplainable but so much familiar to
many Youngblooders happened. With less
than 4 minutes to go the Meercats scored
twice within 10 seconds - Jared Ginsburg
completed his hat-trick and Greg Smith
put the Meercats back in the lead. But
that wasn't all - a minute later Vince
Ticoulet put a rebound in; then Dave
Verderosa and Roman Gendler scored a pair
of shorthanded tallies to finish off the
evening.
