Navigate Text Box: Training Camp Takes Toll on Bellevue Warriors

September 21, 2004

KALAMAZOO (AP) -- Sunday, September 20th, 2004 was a date the Bellevue Warriors were anticipating all year, the first day of the annual Warriors 2004 training camp. Two pulled hamstrings and one groin pull later, they'd sooner forget about it.

Warrior wide receivers Eugene Baldwin and Jake Balch went down early into camp, each with hamstring injuries, while Jonathon Burton, one of the Warriors starting gaurds, suffered a groin pull. Baldwin and Burton's status are listed as probable, while Balch's condition has been listed as 'doubtful'.

Brian Boode, the Warriors head coach and team doctor, was brought in last year after coaching Delores Lebeau Returns to a 1-4 record last season. Boode suggested that Baldwin sit on the sidelines for 3 or 4 weeks.

"I'm playing Game 1 no matter what," was Baldwin's response.

When asked for comment, Coach Boode responded with "that's a nicht-nicht".

Baldwin led the Warriors in receptions and receiving yards last season, with 22 and 260, respectively. He topped off last season in style with a game winning touchdown reception in the final moments to defeat the Chickadees 27-26.
