The Dance
Yesterday when all the stars
came scattered in the sky
And sihouettes danced down the road
inviting me to try,
I hung my head and thought out loud -
"I don't know how to dance"
But no one else was looking,
so I dared to take a chance.
The crickets serenaded me
As I kicked off my shoes
And soon the wind was chiming in
And sweeping out my blues.
I twirled around without a care,
My spirit couldn't crack,
My hands dancing o'er my head
My head fell freely back.
And finally as the crickets tired
And breezes settled down,
I finished singing to the sky,
And curtsied to the ground.
I thought my only audience
was nature at her best
But when I bent to grab my shoes
and settle for a rest...
I saw a woman by the fence,
who clapped as our eyes met
I blushed, for I was certain
the dance was one she'd not forget
"You know" she shouted over,
"I'm so happy I could cry!"
"The joyfulness inside you,
brings a teardrop to my eye"
"You've shared your joy with me" she said
"Because I cannot dance"
I saw her struggle from her chair,
And wobble to a stance.
She said,"You see, you made me smile,
Forgetting all despair...
By living for the love of it,
When you thought I wasn't there."
