I Understand

I've watched you tangle up in pains and struggle to be free
I've seen you try to ask for help, and reach your hand to me
As if I held some magic bag of potions for your aches
As if my words could somehow change the routes your sorrow takes
I try so hard to make you see, that all the knots your in
Are all results of things once done, and places you have been
All things that I haven't known, and only briefly sense
I try to break through iron gates, get hung up on the fence
I cannot change what was for you, but I swear I understand
I'll help you find your freedom, bend the metal in your hand
Don't ever let the world outside control the world in you
It takes up all the strength you've got to make your dreams come true
I know you have the power, and the will to scale the wall
You're not alone, I understand, you're scared that you will fall
But even if you fall a bit, before you run away
It's better than the prison of yourself you're in today
There's always risk of failing love, but no risk means no chance
Of ever getting out of your own sorry circumstance
I love you so for trying, and I want for you to win
Remember the lessons in losing love, of all that has once been
Now conquer these troubles, forever, exactly as you planned
And know no matter what you face, I truly understand
For once, I wore your shoes, myself, and still I feel the fears
That if I hadn't broken free, I would've lost my years
If noone else should sense your pain, or what you're going through
Just know love, that I understand, because once I was you.!
