Dear Francine

Dear Francine - I never thought I'd have these words to say
You know that I've lived well, that I never forget to pray.
But I've been robbed Francine, of my one and only joy
I can't understand why God would need my little boy.
I feel lost Francine, it's the kind of thing you never see
That nothing could prepare you for, or ever set you free.
I've been crying all night, and I spoke aloud to him
I even left the lamp outside on as the afternoon grew dim.
That's my child Francine, could the Good Lord have made an err?
Please let me wake tomorrow to find my little one there!
Oh! Francine! Oh! God! What am I to do?
He's been such a little soldier after all that we've been through.
I'll not forget the times when I cradled my little babe
When I taught him not to play with matches, rocks or razor blades.
I'll not forget the hours we spent reading Dr. Suess
I always think "Oh the Places You'll go", but now there seems no use!
Oh, he never even got a chance! Dear God, this can't be right!
Francine, I know I've not a wink of sleep at all for nights!
How can I deal with such a loss - my tears have soaked my gown!
How can it be that a twelve year old - at play would be gunned down?
