Overall design of the tractor strictly follows the “Rules and Regulations for 2002 ASAE ¼ Scale Tractor Design Competition”. The designed tractor has a mass distribution of 85%:15% and a wheel base length of 85 inches. The expected maximum drawbar pull for the tractor are 700 lb under Class I weight category and 800 lb under Class II weight category at the rear wheel slippages of 40%. Both these pull magnitudes are about 95% of the maximum achievable drawbar pull and 71% of the critical drawbar pull for the tractor. MathCAD software, PROKON Structural Analysis software, and AutoCAD2000 software have been used in the process of designing and developing the tractor. MathCAD software is used to compute the predicted drawbar pull versus rear wheel slippage characteristics on the basis of the developed traction mechanics algorithm for the tractor. PROKON Structural Analysis software is used to analyze the flextural stresses and flextural deflections on the tractor’s main chassis. AutoCAD2000 software is used develop drawings of the components that built up the tractor. The drawings are drawn in successive layers and saved in separate blocks. Later, these drawings assembled together to develop into a complete tractor.
