TECH WINS SECOND STRAIGHT OVER WAKE FOREST 10-4

ATLANTA – Jake Hall drove in three runs and Georgia Tech batted around in the second and sixth innings as the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets (31-7, 10-1 ACC) to a 10-4 win over Wake Forest (23-14, 7-9 ACC) on Saturday night at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win was the Yellow Jackets’ second straight over the Demon Deacons in the three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series.

Tech starter Chris Goodman (6-1) earned a win in his fourth consecutive start after working six effective innings. The right-hander allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Reliever Brian Burks worked three scoreless innings to close out the game and earn his fifth save of the season.

Hall led the Tech offense with two hits in four at bats, including a bases loaded, three run double in the second inning. Andy Hawranick added two hits in three at bats, while Eric Patterson and Jeremy Slayden each had two hits in four at bats.

The Demon Deacons jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Adam Bourassa and Ryan Hubbard led off the game with back-to-back singles, and scored on Ryan Johnson’s RBI single and Jamie D’Antona’s RBI groundout.

The Yellow Jackets stormed through for seven runs in the bottom of the second, aided by three Wake Forest errors in the inning that led to four unearned runs. Tech loaded the bases with one out before Jake Hall cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line. A RBI single from Andy Hawranick plated Hall, while Hawranick scored after Eric Patterson legged out an infield single and first baseman Jeff Ruziecki threw the ball away. Patterson stole second base and took third on an error from catcher Steven Malinowski before Brandon Boggs drove him in with a successful squeeze bunt.

Wake Forest cut the lead to 7-4 with single runs the third in fourth innings, scoring on a two-out RBI double from Ruziecki in the third and a two-out RBI single from Hubbard in the fourth.

A three-run sixth inning gave the Yellow Jackets a 10-4 lead. Jake Hall singled with one out and scored on Hawranick’s RBI double, and Matt Murton drove in Hawranick with an RBI single. Tech loaded the bases with two outs before Micah Owings was hit by a pitch to force in Boggs with the third run of the inning.

Wake Forest starter Seth Hill (2-4) took the loss, allowing nine runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. Adam Bourassa, Ryan Hubbard and Ryan Johnson each had two hits in the game for the Demon Deacons.

Georgia Tech and Wake Forest will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Radio coverage will be available on WREK (91.1 FM in Atlanta).
