Foster care is a temporary living arrangement for abused, neglected, and dependent children
who need a safe place to live when their parents or another relative cannot take care of them.
On any given day there are approximately 10,000 children in foster care throughout the state of Washington.
Requirements to become a Licensed foster home:
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be a US citizen, Permanent resident or lawfully present in the US
- Must have adequate space and a bedroom available for the foster child (may share with another child)
- Must have a stable income to support your existing family
- Must be healthy enough to care for the child
- Must pass a home study
- Spouses or live-in partners must also be committed to the program
- must complete state required trainings; available through licensor)
