Whitton Methodist Church
Churches Together in Whitton
If you live or work within the Whitton area you will come across people of all ages and backgrounds who worship in local churches.
They may attend one of the five churches which are involved with Churches Together in Whitton:
The clergy and members of our congregations meet together regularly to plan activities in which our churches can take part be it fellowship within the church or reaching out into the community.
Over the years we have organised:
- Agape Suppers
- United Services and times of prayer
- Christmas Lunch for people on their own
- Boules Tournaments
- Lent Groups which have covered a variety of themes
- Good Friday Marches of Witness
- Barn Dances/Quiz/Fashion show
- A float in the Whitton Carnival
Our united services have been on different themes and our worship has taken different forms so you may find that instead of the church service you are used to, you will be experiencing other ways as we try to combine something of each tradition. You may find yourselves learning a Latin response to prayers from the Catholic tradition; singing Wesley hymns from the Methodist tradition; saying prayers from the Anglican tradition or hearing Baptist teaching. Within a service we hope that the mixture of styles means that everyone will find something that they appreciate whether it be a child who has enjoyed playing in an orchestra to an adult who has learnt a new song.
We have discovered people of all ages enjoy worshipping; planning and taking part either in speaking or making music; acting or singing or praying in different ways. We share serious moments during the Lent Groups when we consider the Easter message and the issues that it raises today; we also join together for fun events such as a boules match or a quiz night.
We have presented a selection of Christian books to the local library service which you may well have borrowed. We also produce Christmas and Easter cards which are distributed to every household in the area and contain an invitation to attend our services and other activities. We have also been involved in wider issues such as the Jubilee 2000 debt campaign.
Each church hosts something during the year with the Lent Groups being held at a different church each week. Whichever event or church you choose to come to, we hope that you will find something of Christ's love which is for every one of us.
