Stuck on where to eat tonight? Here's a good guide to dining on the North Shore....
dining out....
Some places we've been to recently, and how we rate them...

WILDFIRE, Circular Quay
Ok, the food was great, cocktails were mad, and its a wonderfull looking place, but the 1 hour wait for the booked table was not fun.... and it wouldn't have been so bad if they'd apologised, but the doorguy was  a rude little man (it was 10:30 by the time we got our table, we were getting hungry). The food - pizzas were great, mash was good (according to people who like mash), broccoli was gold (and i don't like broccoli so there you go)... Jess reakoned that normally barramundi is wonderful, but unfortunately it wasn't on the menu. Anyways, courtesy of  our resident 'the pasta is limp' complaints expert, we managed to score free desserts, which were very good....little heavy cream things, like creme brulee in mini fry pan, lemon pudding, strange berry jelly (which some hated but i didn't mind), white chocolate mousse and very heavy chocolate thing.... but after our rather poor service we elected not to tip and accidentally managed to shortchange by 50 cents... oops

BELAROMA CAFE, Pacific Hwy Lindfield
Great for coffee and dessert but surprisingly good for dinner too! Try the crepes, pasta, sushi and even a scrumptious seafood platter. The staff are LOVELY and you might be lucky enough to score the in-house piano entertainment!

SKETCHES, Bridge St City (attached to Intercontinental Hotel)
Cool pasta place with 3 meal sizes (pekish, hungry and famished) - the pasta ingredients and stove are public...you go up to the chef, order your pasta and it is made in front of you! Reasonable prices, and yummy cocktails too!

MONELLO'S, Spit Junction

The pizza's hot and so are the Monello boys... reasonable prices, interesting gelato (different every time!) and a Sistine Chapel reproduction that really makes you feel like you're back in the old country. (reader review

THE MARIGOLD, Chinatown

Proving the enduring versatility of that timeless combination of Pork, Prawns and Grease, this is definately the best yum cha in Sydney. Don't let those Kam Fook acolytes fool you to the dark side with secrets of culinary delights: if it ain't mostly pork, it ain't yum cha! (reader review

PINO's RESTAURANT, Willoughby Rd Crows Nest

We were here just recently for Linda's b'day! It's a bit noisy and cramped upstairs but a cosy atmosphere with decent food and BYO.
But avoid the Gorgonzola! It was rather foul. Everything else was gold though.

BRAVO's, Falcon St Crows Nest

MMM Gelato heaven! Pizza and pasta's great too with a busy downstairs and quieter (but less atmospheric) upstairs.
Meanwhile, scmills tells me that the guys who own bravos own some huge gelato chain in sydney, but i can't remember which one. Yeah Lin, they own gelatissimo....but bravo's is the original and the best! And its cheaper at Bravo's too... mmmmm gelato...

NEW ORLEANS CAFE, Cnr Pacific Hwy & Willoughby Rd Crows Nest

THE place to recuperate when a night out goes wrong....open past midnight on Saturdays, with great wedges, coffee, sticky date pudding and even pasta....top atmosphere..
you forgot the ranch sauce! Everyone try ranch with your wedges...

ZERTS, Darling Harbour

If entering by spaceship is your thing, then this is the place for you! Warning: the pasta is a bit limp (see Jacqui). Order food thru cool computer screens in your booth (where you can also watch movies, music clips etc if you company is particularly boring
NOT THAT OUR COMPANY WAS BORING! Sure, the food was not brilliant, but that was solved later int he evening by getting PASSIONFLOWER Gelato)

PASSIONFLOWER CAFE, Darling Harbou
r
Great gelato, in mad flavours like kiwifruit and lychee and other things you might not automatically think of when your stomach screams out for gelato, but delicious and brilliant! Also have very good waffles and pancakes. The pancakes with banana were quite gold
.

CITY EXTRA, Circular Qua
y
Its food, and its actually open when all other food has gone to bed, which is the main thing in its favour. Mil and I got a crepe there with some strange brown goo on top that was apparently mushroom sauce. OOh, and remember, you can and will get kicked out of this place for drunk and disorderly conduct. ?So some nights its best not to even try =
)

La ZARZUELA, Willoughby Rd Crows Nest

Yummy Spanish food, Tapas and big large mains that you can share. The garlic mushrooms are absolutely gold, and Karen says that the red capsicum antipasto and seafood paella are PERFECTION....we agree!!! Don't forget to try the Sangria!
