Storing beads can be a total bear! It gets frusterating, you try method, after method, after method. And no one can really tell you the "right" way to store your beads. Storing your beads has to work for you.
What good would my advice be, though, if I didn't tell you what I have found to be the best "current" method for storage. And I say current because My beads have been in everything from tool drawers to plano.
First of all, I suggest getting one of these little chests, maybe two... I keep the beads that I use a lot in here, and the rest are in rubbermaid boxes (the BIG ones). The only downfall to different main containers, is having beads all over.
Our home is getting a major makeover, and we are putting a craft room in the back. Once that is done, I will show you an effective ways to store your beads, when you have the space.
Keeping your beads in a container like this is a total bonus, not only is it small, but it has a top that you can place your tools on, while you work.
I am REALLY fond of my tupperware veggie bowl. Actually, it's borrowed
from my mom, but she never really uses it. So, I get to use it. This is a great way to pull out what you need and work. I use the ceter for trash, which means no up and down. But, you can buy a small trash can at the store, and use that, it wont take up much room, and you can have it at arms length.
The prisim organizers that are in the drawers are the BEST to use. There is no comparision. Some people use plano, which, in essence makes sence, but when you work in small seed beads, you need a secure seal. Plus, these are so clear, that you can see everything.
Always, ALWAYS keep your seed beads in small baggies. You will prevent losing them, in the event of a drop and break.
Don't be afraid to venture out and find your own methods of organization. I like to color co-ordinate, which is perfect when you know you want pink and purple, but are not sure which sizes and textures to use. This is a new format for me, and I love it.
I spent more time organizing than beading in the past 13 years. Which is not a very fun thing. I've made more things since I started to organize this way in a week, than I used to in a month. If you are having trouble organizing, try this method, see how you like it, and let me know.
Okay, lets review what you need, and where to find it.
