Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  This section does contain some spoilers.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Continuing where season two exactly left off, Syaoran & the group enter Tokyo.  This time, the CLAMP world enter the X series.  In order to get near Sakura's feather, they work off their living with Kamui's group & fight against Fuuma's group.  During this time, the mysteries of Syaoran's right eye & Fai's purpose is slowly revealled. As this is happening, the other Syaoran is trying to get to them by dimensional jumping.

As the sealed Syaoran is trying get to the other Syaoran in time, the secret of Syaoran being a clone of the currently known Syaoran who's purpose is only to gather the feathers is revealed.  Also, Fai's purpose in keeping the clone Syaoran under the seal that was done on his right eye fails.  Even though the original Syaoran manages to get his right eye back from the clone, he wasn't able to stop him as he gets the feather & go to the next world with Fai's eye in his eye socket.  Meanwhile, Kamui's brother Subaru wakes up from the water reservoir.

To pay back for saving Fai's life & restoring the water reservoir, Kamui who is actually a vampire gives his blood to mix with Kurogane to save Fai.  This is part of a wish made to Yuuko.  For the water, Sakura is sent by Yuuko to get a treasure from the world for compensation.  After paying for the wish, Yuuko tells the group about Wong Fai Reed & his plans on making a wish.  Also, she tells them about how the trio was part of his plan to make it happen such as the clone Syaoran killing Kurogane's parents & how the original Syaoran was sealed away about discovering Wong Fai's plans & was made a clone out of to get Sakura to travel to different worlds.  After hearing all this, the group decides to continue on with their journey.

The story ends with Sakura leaving a second feather from the current world behind for the people in Tokyo Tower to live & her group about to leave for the next world.

My Personal Review

Tsubasa Chronicles Tokyo Revelations is a continuation of the second season.  This is close to saying that the OVA is the third season even though it's only one arc.  Since I've seen the past two seasons, I figured to continue on from here.

Animation

The drawings are very different from the TV shows, but the same as the movie.  Aside from the clothing & colours, the body is done differently.  Not only that, they don't have that CLAMP feel to it.  There are no long legs or arms or thin bodies.  It's pretty much a balance body.  Even the faces look a bit different.

The backgrounds are pretty good.  More 3DCGs here than the TV shows & a lot of soft & colourful colours.  It really brings life to the movie like living artwork.

The animation movements are very smooth & realistic.  Very fluid as well.

Sound

The sound effect doesn't have a very dark touch.  But it doesn't make light of the situations in the movie.  The sounds in the fights are very crisp & clear.  Sometimes it can put you right into the action.

The voices are the same ones from the TV shows, which is a good sign since you don't need to re-adapt.

The music is slightly different from the past TV shows.  Yuki Kajiura is still doing it, but the songs are new & not recycled.  The ending theme is pretty good in my view.

Story

Although it's made from a different studio, the OVA picks up exactly where season two ended.  Although it has been awhile since I seen the ending of season two, the OVA does give a slight refresher to the viewers.  I don't exactly remember how it was, but I managed to get some idea of it.

I found this OVA to be a bit fast pace & action packed.  It's more to the point than the TV shows; mainly because it's an OVA.  Also, Sakura's character is a bit more cooler here as she goes on a dangerous task alone & manages to do very well.  Very different from the TV version where she doesn't fight & is shown as a weak character.

The ending of the OVA is nothing new.  It ends the same way as how the TV show's arcs are as the group is about to head to another world.  The OVA doesn't conclude the series, but it manages to give a lot of details of the series' plot in terms of what the enemy is up to & the character's finding their goals & paths.

Overall Conclusion

Tsubasa Chronicles Tokyo Revelations is probably the better Tsubasa anime I've seen so far.  More action & story based.  Plus, it finally reveals some mysteries that have been dragging for some time.  However, you need background about this series before going into it or else you will get lost easily as it takes place in the middle of the series.

Tsubasa Chronicles Tokyo Revelations receives an 8.5/10 from me.  The story is very good & gets right to the point.  Plus, it's fast pace action & story driven.  However, this OVA is mainly a simple arc like the TV shows.  The only difference is the amount of details of the characters & the plot is given in a short airing time frame.
