Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS) Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen. This section does contain some spoilers. If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section. If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on. Ren has a hard time adjusting to the work & lifestyle of the Kuonji family. He thinks that the family isn't normal. Because of this, he makes many mistakes which puts him into a lot of trouble. However, he manages to pass his trial period & becomes Shinra's personal assistant. Initially, he was a temporary one as all the sister have a personal assistant. But he became a permanent one to Shinra as she found him to be cute. However, Ren is still learning the many ways of being a butler & living with the Kuonji family. Over time, he quickly improves when he & Mihato get accepted. But he faces some difficulties at time & needs being tested to see which master he wants to serve. The happy times for Ren & finally having a home with a happy family changes when Ren & Mihato's father manages to locate where they are from a newspaper article. As he makes his way to them, Ren is providing support to Shinra as her concert is approaching. Seeing how hard she is pushing herself & her master telling her that her performance was better during her student days, Ren asks her out for a date to relax herself. But the near end of the date would be costly as he tells her that he understands her feelings which frustrates her. His comments about how she should step away from her father's shadows & do wants she wants pushes it some more as she goes home without him. On his way back to the mansion is where he comes face to face with his father again. Ren's father tells him to bring Mihato with him & come back. He refuses until his father makes a comment about how Ren killed his mother & how he shouldn't live a happy life. His father leaves as he tells Ren to call him as he awaits for his answer. His panic would cost him the next morning where he accidentally spills some milk coffee onto Shinra's music sheets. Shinra makes the decision to fire Ren due to his carelessness. Mihato decides to quit as well when she hears the reason for firing Ren. The other Kuonji sisters & servants try to convince Shinra to change her mind. She would put Ren on temporary dismissal after thinking back how she reacted last night & how much fun she had on the date. Although Ren is happy to get his job back, he still has the matter with his father. With Shinra's concert coming tomorrow night, Ren decides to settle the matter with his father soon. Shinra is concern about him as he continues to keep the matter to himself. The next morning, his father comes to the Kuonji mansion as Ren is sweeping the front gate. Talking about the matter somewhere else, Shinra & other follow to see. Although Ren tells his father to leave, he refuses as he attacks him which causes Shinra & the others to react. When she tells him not to go back to his father, Ren refuses as he feels that he would bring more trouble to them. His mind changes where Shinra tells him about what he told her during their date about breaking away from her father & being her emotional support. Ren makes his decision & tells his father that his family with the Kuonji's. When he & Shinra leave for her rehearsal, Mihato tells her father to change his ways & she'll bring Ren to him. He admits about his weaknesses & how lonely he was when Ren left. During Shinra's performance, she realizes to be herself & thanks Ren for it. The show ends with Ren continuing to face hardships at the Kuonji mansion as their butler & yet to have a master to fully serve. During the credit roll, we see a cleaned up father of Ren & Mihato as they visit their mother's grave. From there, pictures of Kuonji's vacation are taken & near the end Shinra mentions that their home is the best place to be.

My Personal Review The English name, They are my noble Masters, was something that I blindly picked up. Knowing very little of it, I decided to go for it since it's a comedy. Animation The character designs are somewhat weird & appealling. Ren reminds me a lot like Naruto with those whisker like markings on his face. The girls are nice, but somewhat plain to me at times. Not all of them are the same looking as others. They do have their distinctions. The animation movements are quite fluid & natural. There are the occasional strange & out of this world actions, but that's usually when the comedy stuff kicks in. Some frames are left out to make the fast slapstick humour. Sound The sound effect are ok & the volume is just right. The sounds were more on the silly side than realistic. They make the jokes come alive. The seiyuus here are ok. Some are good, while some are just somewhat average. The emotions & impacts are there, it's just that there are some that didn't sound good to me personally. The music was ok & consist of mainly pop & rock. There wasn't any song that I liked in particular & none of them stay in my head. Story Mainly Ren working hard to be an excellent butler. At the same time, he tries to please Shinra as her personal servant. Plus, trying to work his way around her abuse for making him cute. The Uesugi background is quite nice & touching. But the length it goes to it isn't that impressive. The show is mainly focused on humour. The show sways from the Uesugi problems until the final arc which is the last two episodes. I found the character development to be a bit lacking. This tends to be a problem with many short shows. Luckily, most of it is on Ren & his views about family. It develops pretty well until it gets to the part about his father. I found the resolution to the situation to be sudden. The relationship between & Ren seems to be clouded as there are parts that aren't surfaced much such as his mother. Plus the change in his father is sudden as well. Although it manages to end the show nicely, it does leave a bit of a sour taste. Overall Conclusion They are My Noble Masters is a great comedy show to watch for fun. It's got an interesting background on the Uesugi kids & their struggling background. But if you think they will expand on it or the show giving a good plot, don't even think about it as there won't be one. Watch it for laughs instead. They are My Noble Masters gets a grade of seven out of ten. It's funny & wacky. But it doesn't present a good storyline as the Uesugi family problem isn't surface much until the end. Once we get to that point, the solution to the problem feels sudden & lacking. |
