Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

A magical girl show where five of the School Days girls work at the Radish restaurant run by Sekai Saionji's mother.  However, it's actually a base of five magical girls that fight crime & defend the city from evil.  When Doctor S releases some ero-gas that causes men to become perverted zombies, the five magical girls try to defend the city but fail.  However, Magical Heart would appear & manages to stop the gas.  But fails with the next battle when a giant Tanaka attacks.  Next, another magical girl named Magical Word would appear.  She's not related with the other magical girls.  She would then combine with Magical Heart with form Magical Mimi-chan & defeat Tanaka with a chainsaw with bloody results.

The OVA ends with the School Days crew relaxing at Radish.

My Personal Review

School Days OVA Special: Magical Girl Kokoro-chan is a parody with magical girls.  It's quite funny to watch as it takes the series to some fantasy levels.  However, you will need to watch the TV show to understand the background of the characters.  Also be aware that the OVA does contain nudity of breasts.  Taisuke Sawanaga's wang is present, but blacked out.

Animation

Same as the TV show.  The character designs have that plain look.  The girls are pretty much the same.  I sometimes actually had problems telling who was Katsura & Sekai which was pretty weird for me.  Technically, it should be easy to tell them apart, but I actually problems with it for some reason.  As for the fashion, it's plain as well.  Not much style, but still pretty good.  In this OVA though, the character do have some strange faces such as large eyes with one dot in the pupils.

The backgrounds are okay.  Not a lot of details & it does have it's dull side at times.

The colours are bright here in comparison with the other School Days anime.  It makes the OVA more cheerful & adds that magical girl effect.

In terms of the animation movement, it's got a mixture of realistic & silly movements.  The flow is quite smooth with some strange cycles such as walking & running.  It looks choppy at times.

Sound

The sound effects are heavily on the comic side than real.  The sounds are projected nicely & the clarity is good.

Same seiyuus from the TV & again they are average here as well.  I don't like Matoko's voice much as it seems to be whiny.  As for the girls, it's not very powerful performances.  They don't provide a lot of punch to their characters even though they do have some life to them.  Sekai is probably the best of the bunch, even though her performance isn't that great.

The music is mainly on the cute pop side for this OVA.  However, they don't really grab my attention very well.  It's kind of dry & dull.

Story

Basically school girl parody with the female School Days cast.  A majority of them get their clothing shredded up & exposing some nipples on some of them.  That or in some strange perverted magical girl hero costume.  You can easily tell who's who in their super hero or villain forms.  The OVA is full of ecchi humour & doesn't go for relationships.

For the ending, it takes the traditional School Days bloody approach.  Although Makoto wanted a good ending with blood, blood is still spilled here in large amounts.  Plus, the "nice boat" approach is here in a raft boat.

Overall Conclusion

School Days OVA Special: Magical Heart Kokoro-chan is pretty funny to watch & gets you away from all the negative stuff from the original storyline.  It's all ecchi humour & deals with nothing in the series with the exception of using the characters from it.  But you will need to watch the TV show or have an understanding of the series to enjoy the special at its fullest.

School Days OVA Special: Magical Heart Kokoro-chan gets a seven out of ten.  This is purely fanservice, but makes the OVA funny in a perverted way.  No dark stuff or paranoid characters.  The OVA shouldn't be taken seriously to enjoy.
