Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS) Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen. If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section. If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on. It's basically shorts of Kuonji & his encounters or relationship with one of the female characters. The episodes don't stick flow with one another with the exception of episodes five & six & the later episodes which seems to build from the actual main game plot as the world is about to be broken as the whale girl Sacchan is taken away. Kuonji remembers Sacchan from the past as she destroys the world to make anew with the whale in the air shattered into snow like pieces. This was the wish that Kuonji & Sacchan wanted & ends the show. |

My Personal Review Saishū Shiken Kujira is somewhat layback show that's based on the ero-game of the same name by CIRCUS. I started watching after finding out what it was & it having short episode running times. Animation The character designs are quite nice & plain. The girls don't look similar to one another which is good. But, they aren't too appealling. The characters do go to silly drawing modes at times during the comedic parts. They do somewhat look like their game counterparts though. The backgrounds are okay. Not a lot of details & are some of plain. The colours are on the dull side. Also, the lines don't seem solid. You can see some breaks when the characters are up close. The blending between the backgrounds & characters aren't bad as they don't overlap with one another. In terms of the animation movement, it's a mixture. Sometimes the movements are realistic & sometimes the movements are not normal. But they aren't too smooth as some choppy frames can be found time to time. Sound The sound effects are on the silly & realistic side. Some of them are quite cute & funny. They fit the show well & give it some life. The seiyuus here are average. I'm not sure if they are the same ones from the game. They are ok, but I felt that the cast could be better as some of them don't seem to give some impact on their roles. The music is mainly the pop & ballad side. Somewhat fits the ONA, but not too enjoyable personally. Story Basically Kuonji & one of the girls he's meets or is with. The focus is more on the girls than him. However, it's quite easy to get lost in the episodes if you have no background on the series. It barely explains about some of the characters & doesn't really give any depth on what the series is about. This ONA is mainly for fanservice to the game fans. However, I think the ONA actually follows the game's plot as the latter episodes work on the climax plot of the series' plot. Since I haven't played the game before (except the demo), this is really just guesses. But it really helps to have played the game beforehand as the show doesn't seem to make any sense as a lot of plot elements aren't explained or mentioned in the ONA. Overall Conclusion Saishū Shiken Kujira is a nice show if you want something short. However, it's best to get a background on the series or else you would be mindless watching something that doesn't seem enjoyable. Saishū Shiken Kujira rates a six out of ten. This ONA is purely fanservice as it has no story in the first round. For people that don't know the series, you best stay away from this even though it's short. In the later half, you will get lost as it follows the game's ending & jumps very quick to it, which will get you confused along the way. |
