Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Because the island is filled with girls, all of them seem to go after Ikuto as he's the only male around after all the males were wiped out from an incident on the island.  One would think that Ikuto is in harem, but he gets mopped to the point that it's not good.  Not only that he becomes a target to the women, but their strength & abilities surpasses his expectations as they are stronger than him, faster than him, & useful than him.  However, he still tries to find a way to escape the island when he fails to do so from whirlpools surrounding the island.  Currently, he lives with Suzu & her pet pig Tonkatsu under the village elder's order.  Later on, another character who is shy from the outside world named Mei Mei joins in & Ikuto & the others try to make her feel welcome.  Also, she's another rival in Suzu's love for Ikuto.  Despite all the rivalry, Ikuto manages to feel comfortable on the island.

As time pass, Ikuto's letter to his sister is replied back from her as she writes to him that she's on her way looking for him.  This concerns Ikuto as he tries to find ways to get off the island.  Suzu's confused feelings for him tries to stop him due to her selfishness.  However, she's willing to help him in the end.  As the village elder tells Ikuto one way to get off the island, the other rivalry girls tries to stop Ikuto from leaving.  The method is to wait for the next thunderstorm & get the blessing of the Sea Dragon God.

Fight the four leaders & obtaining the blessing of the Sea Dragon God was a challenge to Ikuto, but he manages to get them.  However, Ayane screws up & angers the Sea Dragon God which almost costs Ikuto's life until Suzu & the others manage to calm the god.  Thanks to this, Ikuto manages to get to the other side & finds out that his sister was stranded on an island full of men.  The name of the island is the same as the one filled with girls.  After seeing his sister okay, he decides to leave his sister under the care of the men & returns back to his island.

The show ends with Ikuto being washed up on the island & the village elder holding another event for the residents to capture Ikuto again.

My Personal Review

Nagasarete Airantou is a really funny show that puts your view about a harem world into something that you won't thing would lead to hell.  However, it's still like any harem anime out there.

Animation

The character designs are on the cute side, especially with the animals.  You won't think they would look any stranger than that.  As for the girls, they are pretty much all the same looking.  It seems to be a trend for a lot of anime shows to do this.  Probably speed & budget wise.  Ikuto on the other hand has a lot of variations for his face for comedy reasons.

The backgrounds are okay.  They aren't too detail as they seem to be kept simple for comedy purposes.  Plus, probably for that cute kiddy style.

The colours are quite bright & colourful.  It gives the anime some cute flavour.  No much shading as it seems to be kept simple again.

In terms of the animation movement, it's mainly silly & weird stuff.  It helps give off that visual comedy that the show seems to be heavily fitted on.

Sound

The sound effects are on the realistic side.  The clashing of blade & the sound of flesh being pierced is very clear.

The seiyuus here are ok.  Clare's voice fits well, but I have a little problem with Raki's.  The seiyuu's voice is a bit too girly & high pitched & the person is a male.  But, it fits Raki's personality ok nevertheless.

The music is on the rock & medieval side.  However, the music is quite forgettable & at times I don't realized it's being played.

Story

Mainly it's pure harem with Ikuto is chased after by some of the village girls in making him into their husband.  At the same time, Ikuto tries to adapt to the island's lifestyle while figuring out how to get off the island.  Because he freeloads from Suzu, he tries to help her out.  However, everything seems difficult for him since he can't do anything right.  Also, he tends to get angry when he hears things being impossible & tries to make it possible.  The reason for it is mainly because his father uses those same words on him & he doesn't like to lose.  Sometimes, the jokes can get dry over time.

Despite being a dream harem, it turns the turntables around where Ikuto finds it as hell.  Although there are a lot of harem based anime out there, this one is no different from the others.  It's just pure comedy & fanservice.  Although it's got an interesting background on where Ikuto is coming from, its got no storyline.  Regards of these elements & getting off the island to find his sister, the story doesn't develop much for Ikuto.  In fact, there is no story at all even with the relationship between him & Suzu even though you do see the development happening.  The show also splits into two mini episodes in one showing at times & they don't link to one another smoothly.  In other words, there are different stories.

Overall Conclusion

Nagasarete Airantou is mainly a harem anime for laughs.  If you like these types of anime shows, I recommend watching this.

Nagasarete Airantou gets a 7/10.  The idea of its harem approach is quite interesting, even though it's found in a lot of anime shows.  I'm there for the laughs really.  There is no decent storyline available, but the jokes are plenty enough to watch it.
