Information of Anime

Keitai Shoujo (Cell phone Girl) is about girls using cell phones to text one another.  Hiro Aida encounters each of the five main heroines in the show directly & indirectly.

Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Basically, the show shows a different girl in each episode in their normal daily lives.  At times, they use their cell phones to text their friends about upcoming events or what's happening to them.  Hiro meets each of these girls & some of them don't have direct contact or relationships with him.  He views them from afar or up-close.

The show ends with Hiro confessing to Sayo Tomoe, one of the girls that he met during the show, after his magical cell girl Rin disappears as he found his true love.

My Personal Review

Keitai Shoujo is only available for viewing on the web as it was originally produced for this method.

Animation

The character designs are pretty cute.  But, all the girls look pretty much the same.  Big eyes & chubby faces.  The males do have some differences between them, but it's not large differences,

The backgrounds are on the dull side as the show is probably on a small budget.  Not much details as well.  Another reason could be because it's streamed on the web.

For the colours, it's pretty bright & balance for something that is only for the net.  It's pretty much up to par with the ones on TV.

In terms of the animation movement, it's quite flowing & smooth.  There are some quick & silly movements involved in the show for the comedy bits.  Regardless of some noticeable frame cycles, the animation isn't too bad.

Sound

Many realistic sound effects in this anime.  They are pretty soft & gentle, which eases the mood of the show.

The seiyuus here are not too great, but okay.  They fit their characters well, but the projection isn't too good.  Not sure if it's the quality of the fansub I watched or if it's actually like that.

The music is ok as it's mainly pop/idol type songs.  It's got soft ballads as well for the backgrounds.  Nothing memorable though.

Story

It mainly focuses on one girl for each episode.  No episodes are linked to one another as they are individual short stories.  Although each of them involves Hiro, the main point of view belongs to the girls.  I found the stories to be plain.  Probably because it's on the realistic side as they mainly focus on everyday like issues such as guys trying to pick up girls or little boys flipping up girl's skirts.  Another reason for the dull stories is the time limit.  Although it has six minutes, the episodes are really three or four minutes worth of scene time.  The stories are developed well in a sense, but the interest level isn't really there.  Although the show does have an ending, however it still doesn't feel too complete.

Overall Conclusion

Keitai Shoujo is mainly a service for otakus & anime lovers.  The show isn't too great & I don't think it was meant to have a plot in the first place since it's for the web.  Watching the final episode, I'm not sure if this is based on a game or something.

Keitai Shoujo receives a text message of five out of ten.  It's pretty much pure entertainment.  Very short storylines that aren't too interesting with little to no time to develop.
