Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ OVA

Information of Anime

Four months has passed since Hazumu Osaragi made her decision on choosing Yasuna Kamiizumi as her girlfriend.  It's now Christmas & everyone is getting ready.  During this time, Yasuna rejects Hazumu & decides to stand on her own two feet.  Hazumu decides to go after Tomari Kurusu.

This is a sequel to the Kasimasi ~ Girl Meets Girl ~ TV show.

Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I have seen.  This section does contain some spoilers.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Because Yasuna rejects Hazumu in order not to depend on her for her problems, Yasuna tell Hazumu to go after Tomari instead as Hazumu likes Tomari.  Remember the scene after the credits on the last episode of the TV show where Hazumu was going to tell Tomari something?  It was her love confession to her.  Because Tomari didn't give Hazumu her answer, Hazumu has been chasing after her for four months up to Christmas.

The OVA is set as Hazumu is inviting her friends to come to her Christmas party.  However, Tomari doesn't plan to go as she tries to avoid Hazumu in giving her an answer to her confession.  Yasuna, with the help of Hitoshi Sora & Jan Poo, they set up a plan to get the two together.  In the meantime, the others are trying to talk to Tomari in being honest to herself.  On the night of the Christmas party, the plan takes effect & Yasuna tells Tomari why she rejected Tomari.  As a result, Tomari finally gives Hazumu an answer by being her bride.  The OVA ends as the couple & their friends ride into the nightly sky in a sleigh.

My Personal Review

Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ OVA is more of a fanservice than a continuation to the TV show.  It does pick up where the TV show left off perfectly well as it was all planned from the beginning I believe.  The ending of the TV show was no doubt incomplete, so it was expected that something like this would come up.

Animation

Same as the TV show.  The character designs are quite dull.  Virtually all the girls look the same almost.  Chubby round calm faces with large eyes.  The only differences would be the hairstyle & slight variation of the eyes.  The guys were the only ones with differences.  Hazumu's face as a boy didn't look too good since his eyes were covered up with his hair.  This was probably done so it was easier to make him into a girl later on.

The OVA is on the dull side with it's colours being not too bright.  Although the characters tend to be brighter than the background, they blend well together.

The backgrounds are good as it shows some life on the plants mostly.  A lot of the background scene is like artwork with blurry details.  In fact, a lot of it is blurry when they are viewed close up.

The animation movements aren't too bad.  It's quite smooth really.  There are times where the animation goes into silly mode when Tomari gets angry or Namiko Tsuki goes nuts.  At times like those, the animation moves very fast.

Sound

The sound effects are realistic & sometimes silly.  Most of the time, it's more on the realistic side as the show is getting more serious even though there are some comedy bits thrown in-between.

The seiyuus here are the same as the TV show, which is a good thing. No sudden changes or adjustment need to enjoy the OVA.

The music is mainly ballads again.  It's not very memorable since none of them stick into my head.  Also, they don't seem to effect the mood of the show very much with the exception of some dramatic moments.

Story

As I predicted, this OVA continues off where the TV show left off.  However, I found this to be a fanservice OVA to satisfy the Tomari fans.  Basically, a "Hazumu chose Tomari" scenario.  All the characters seem to be stronger than before though.  Yasuna now can solve her own problems without relying Hazumu & Hazumu can make her choices without being indecisive.  Although the show takes place in Christmas, I was surprised to see that the OVA was released in October.  There's nothing really new to the storyline really as it seems to create another ending for the series instead.

Overall Conclusion

Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ OVA is more added bonus material to keep Tomari fans happy.  You need to watch the TV show first in order to understand what's going on.  Although it's a continuation to the TV show, it's not a very good one really.

Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ OVA receives a grade of seven out of ten.  Although the characters are well developed now, the story that the OVA offers isn't that great.  It's more on fanservice & giving you a somewhat "true" ending to the series.  However, it can be quite confusing if you were to stick with the TV's ending.  The OVA seems to fill in some additional stuff in between when Hazumu made her decision on which girl to choose.
