Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS) Below is a summary of the storyline I have seen. This section does contain some spoilers. If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section. If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on. Although Hazumu gets his sex changed, the whole world knows it due to the alien's broadcast across the Earth. Despite the sex change, Hazumu seems comfortable with it as if it was fate. In the beginning of the show, Yasuna feels a bit guilty about Hazumu's sex change since she believes that she is the cause of Hazumu's accident. Hazumu's old childhood friend, Tomari Kurusu, isn't too comfortable with her (Hazumu who I will now say is a girl) change. In fact, she has feelings for her. After Hazumu & Yasuna work out the effects of being rejected, they go back as friends which trouble Tomari more. Now, Yasuna loves Hazumu and this cause a girl love triangle between the three. Meanwhile, the alien that hit him, Sora Hitoshi, with his spaceship, Jan Poo who takes a similar form of Hazumu as a female, becomes an assistant teacher at Hazumu's school to study the behaviour of Earthlings. Things get interesting as Hazumu is undecided on what to do with Yasuna & Tomari as the both of them love Hazumu. We also learned something interesting about Yasuna as he can't see men clearly for some reason. Because Hazumu was the 1st boy she could see clear, she was happy & wanted to be with him. However, she rejected his love confession because she was concern that "he" would fade away from her vision like the other men. After battling over Hazumu's love, Yasuna & Tomari come to a temporary truce & become friends for Hazumu's sake. However, this truce provides some hardships for Yasuna & Tomari as they can't express their true feelings to Hazumu. Also, Hazumu is having a hard time deciding who she should choose as she fears the current relationship will painful for Yasuna & Tomari. Things heat up as misunderstanding actions occur. These misunderstandings break the truce as Yasuna & Tomari make "moves" on Hazumu & the promise between friends is broken. To make matters worse, Yasuna can't see women now. Also, she can't see Hazumu anymore. Seeing how much pain they are in, Hazumu tries to run away from the problem. However, she finally comes in making a decision when Sora tells her what his purpose in coming to Earth was. He was looking for a cure to the disease that Yasuna has & was using her & Hazumu as experimental subjects in finding the cure. Therefore, Hazumu finally chooses Yasuna over Tomari & it was a painful decision for her. The show ends with Hazumu confessing her love to Yasuna & she is able to see all humans now. Seeing the results, Sora & Jan Poo return to space. After the credit roll, we see Hazumu talking to Yasuna & Tomari in to different scenes as if she had something important to tell them individually. |

My Personal Review Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ really turned me off when I learned a brief description of it. The fact that boy changes into a girl kind of freaks me out. I imagined that guys would start flocking Hazumu for her love, which rarely happens. Instead we get some yuri love, which may turn off some people. However, I feel that's very unlikely. Animation The character designs are quite dull. Virtually all the girls look the same almost. Chubby round calm faces with large eyes. The only differences would be the hairstyle & slight variation of the eyes. The guys were the only ones with differences. Hazumu's face as a boy didn't look too good since his eyes were covered up with his hair. This was probably done so it was easier to make him into a girl later on. The show is on the dull side with it's colours being not too bright. Although the characters tend to be brighter than the background, they blend well together. The backgrounds are good as it shows some life on the plants mostly. A lot of the background scene is like artwork with blurry details. In fact, a lot of it is blurry when they are viewed close up. The animation movements aren't too bad. It's quite smooth really. There are times where the animation goes into silly mode when Tomari gets angry or Namiko Tsuki goes nuts. At times like those, the animation moves very fast. Sound The sound effects are realistic & sometimes silly. Most of the time, it's more on the realistic side as the show is getting more serious even though there are some comedy bits thrown in-between. The seiyuus here aren't too bad. I'm actually thankful that Hazumu turned into a girl since her voice as a boy was creeping me out. It was very feminine that I couldn't believe that she was a boy originally. I'm quite glad we don't heard it a lot in the show. As a female, Hazumu's voice is fine. But it was hard to believe that she was once a boy. As for the rest of the cast, they aren't bad as they seem to fit their characters quite nice. The music is mainly ballads. It's not very memorable since none of them stick into my head. Also, they don't seem to effect the mood of the show very much with the exception of some dramatic moments. Story It's mainly a love triangle between Hazumu, Yasuna, & Tomari. Yasuna & Tomari are fighting against each other for Hazumu's love, while Hazumu is blind about the situation. Although she can't go back as a boy according to the show so far, it's hard to believe that Hazumu takes it so lightly. It's like "Oh well, what are you going to do about it?" The sudden acceptance was so creepy. Not only that, Hazumu is very weak when she was a guy. I'm actually very glad that she's a girl now. Hazumu's character is very feminine with her fair amount of crying & fear when she was a guy. But, Yasuna's blurry vision of men bothers me. It seems too unreal. However, that gets cured in the end as a mental problem that a person refuses to love & communicate with others. I found the idea to be a bit cheesy even though it's kind of original. As the show progress, the love triangle seems to go in a big circle as it doesn't seem to go anywhere. It pretty much drags the show. Luckily, Yasuna & Tomari called a temporary truce after the midway point of the show & shows the struggles they are having with it. This pretty much creates some interest in the show. Plus, the comedy bits of Asuta Soro trying to hit on Hazumu brings some relief. However, it was bit scary for me since I couldn't get over the fact that Hazumu was originally a boy. The ending of the show bothers me. Although Hazumu makes a decision, I felt that decision was due to taking Sora's words when he told her his purpose on Earth. It didn't feel like she made the decision on her own. I found her character development to be very poor here as the others seem to develop better. But, the girl she chose was on a cliffhanger to me. But the ending was too much of a cliffhanger & it's not an open one. It's more of a continuation as if Hazumu still is deciding which girl to choose for some reason. It made me think there is more to the show. But, I assume you are suppose to continue on in the manga instead or the OVA special. Overall Conclusion Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ is quite an interesting show. However, with it's yuri content, some people may not like it. Also, the fact about Hazumu going from boy to girl may take some people off. If you can get over these factors, this is a good series to watch if you like love dramas involving love triangles. Kasimasi ~Girl Meets Girl~ receives a grade of 7.5/10. The storyline is interesting with its love triangle. However, the love triangle was going in a huge circle with the temporary truce & Hazumu's poor decision making capabilities really dragged it some more. Plus, Hazumu's character is very weak as a person who lacks strength in make her own decisions & is too much of a crybaby. In fact, I found Hazumu's character development to be really lacking as she doesn't seem to improve in the show. Plus, the ending really leaves you wanting more & didn't feel complete. |
