Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline.  This section does contain some spoilers.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Each special are stand alones that don't link to any of the TV episodes.  However, they seem to be in between those episodes based on the time settings.

The first special is about Romaiya-senpai, a student & dorm-mate of Takemoto & the others.  It talks about how Romaiya's character is well liked by others around him & how his presences makes a difference.  The second special is about Fujiwara Design & Takumi Mayama & Ayumi Yamada's past group dating events.

My Personal Review

The Honey & Clover Specials are more on the comedy side than a walk of life.  So, think of them as fanservice for the fans to laugh & enjoy.

Animation

The same as the TV show.  The character designs are quite unique.  It's like how they would be drawn in a manga.  Although I never read the manga, it gave me that impression.

The colours are very dull.  It looked quite natural to the anime actually.  Aside of matching it's manga-like character designs, it gave a warm feeling.  The show looked like in was made in the 90s though.

In terms of the animation movement, the flow was quite nice & natural.  Although there were scenes that had silly situations, it was well made.

Sound

The same as the TV show again.  The sound effects weren't bad.  The things sounded like what they are in real life.  Although the sounds of bones cracking & things getting slammed or hit had those anime-type sound effects, it was ok.

The voice actors were good.  They matched their characters very well.  Hagumi was a bit on the iffy side.  Since she's a short 18 year old, she sounded like she was a bit "bigger" than she should be.  The voices were mature & gave me the impression.

The music was good.  The background music blended well to give off the mood of the scenes occurring in the show.  The opening theme song was an ear bleeding for me.  I couldn't stand YUKI's singing.  It's similar to the lead singer of the J-Rock group little by little, but much worse.  High pitch & it sounded like it was off-key at times.  There are some new music here & I like Romaiya's theme song.  It fits him well & really sticks to my head.

Story

No major storyline here.  It's mainly short stories that are purely for entertainment when you can laugh.  It tells a story that focuses on one situation or scenerio.

Overall Conclusion

I recommend watching the Honey & Clover Specials if you are a fan of the series or want a good laugh.

Honey & Clover Specials gets a grade of 8.5/10.  It's just purely comedy & with little facts of life.
