Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS) Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen. This section does contain some spoilers. If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section. If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on. The show takes you through the lives of the six girls & their experiences of being high school girls. They involved getting boyfriends, hating teachers, physical examinations, & breakup & misunderstandings. What seems like a normal high school life isn't the same as one would see it, especially in an all-girls high school. The show goes through their first year by starting a day before the school entrance ceremony to the start of the second year. The show actually ends from the school festival & Momoka Suzuki deciding to attend the same school as the six girls. |

My Personal Review High School Girls is quite funny, but it stretches the borders a bit too far. It contains a lot of ecchi stuff, such as panty shots & peeping toms. Also, it can go beyond like pulling out pubic hair to fix a bikini line. Because of it's quite extreme content, it shouldn't be viewed by a younger audience. Young teens may be an exception. Animation The drawings are pretty plain. All the girls look the same with little facial & hair differences. Plus, I didn't like the drawings much. I found the character designs in the ending credits to be more appealling. Even the male characters look almost the same with the exception of the gym teacher. The colours are very dull. The colours may look bright, but it's really flat. But, it has some tones to it. The colours, however, blend well between the characters & the background. The backgrounds aren't drawn too well. Pretty plain & lacks life. Sometimes, I don't pay attention to it & forget where exactly the story is taking place like behind the schoolyard, the eastern side of town, etc. The animation movement is on the silly side a lot. The motion is fluid, but sometimes it's too sudden. It's nothing about it really since it mainly done for comedic purposes. Sound The sound effects are heavily on the silly side. Not much of it sounds realistic. It's pretty clear & clean. No fuzzes whatsoever. The voice actors are ok. It's more like average. The voices doesn't really offer much impact until the show gets to the scenes where we have ecchi-like material appearing on screen. Other than that, they are bearable. The music is mostly catchy pop songs. They create the mood very well in establish what high school girls would listen to. But a lot of the songs don't stick to my head. Story Mostly following the lives of the six high school girls. It covers their 1st year only. What makes it a bit more interesting is that they are students from an all-girl's school. As a male, I didn't expect a life of a high school girl to be that bizarre. The sloppy behaviour of the girls, strange physical exams, & group dating outings. I don't know how realistic these stories are & I can't go asking girls & my female friends about their high school lives. But some of them look like you can relate to in real life, such as the younger sister that tries to break your friendship. However, I didn't see a lot of character development in the show nor some advancement in their friendship. I find the show to be a bit overboard most of the times. Why would you let your friend to assist you in pulling your pubic hair to fix your bikini line out in public? And when was the last time you saw a male teacher who's obsessed about out himself as being an idol to all? Some of the jokes are funny, but it's pretty outrageous & weird. Overall Conclusion High School Girls is mainly there for the humour. It's got no plotline from what I'm seeing. It's mostly about the lives of six fresh high school girls & their "survival" of high school hell. With so much ecchi content, I'm thinking that the show is heavily targeted towards a male audience with an interest of know or possibly fantasizing the lives of high school girls. It's like the secret lives of high school girls being exposed to the public. Personally, I would suggest watching this show if you like high school girl humour that goes beyond. For me, I watch it when I'm bored or have nothing else to watch. High School Girls receives a grade of 6.5/10. It's got a lot of laughs in the ecchi department, but they can go overboard at times. Although it lacks a plotline by focusing on their first year, the idea of watching the six girls going through life as a high school girls is enough as it does have some real life situations. However, the way it's presented is a bit too much. |
