Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Amano basically joins the Better Fortune Research Organization to be close to Kikunosuke, a boy that she has a crush on.  Unfortunately, the club has a rule among the girls not to fall for him but Amano doesn't know this.  The show shows the club fighting against Magatsugamis & the person affected by it loses his/her bad luck.  The seven girls are related to the seven lucky gods from Chinese stories.  When they transform, they use the powers of one of the lucky gods.  Kikunosuke doesn't have the power of the lucky gods as he's more of a standalone person.

As the show progresses, it turns out that Amano has special powers as well as she is key to the red star that is buried under the city since ancient times.  This is the reason why Happy Seven are fighting. We see these powers from Amano at times when she gets emotional & are quite strong.  When Kukitomoe uses this power to release the red star by showing her the virgin vow that the Happy Seven girls have & didn't tell Amano about it, she loses control & releases the seal.  Thus freeing the red star which is actually the Evil Spirit Star, a powerful weapon, & her death.

Kokuanten uses this opportunity to absorb some of the powers of the red star as it is attached to Amano for energy.  The Happy Seven crew has a tough time fighting a new powered up Kokuanten.  But the battle stops when she sees Amano attached to the red star & sees that she's dead.  Suddenly, Amano begins to speak from the machine.  The red star is a weapon of destruction that was build to end a war.  But the power was more than it was calculated & was buried in the Earth a long time ago by a federal lord.  Its power was enough to destroy the whole galaxy.  As Amano tells them that their home planet is coming to Earth to dismantle the weapon, the red star is set to destroy the Earth in seven minutes.  Thus, the Happy Seven group tries to stop it as time is running out.   However, their powers isn't enough.  Kikunosuke manages to get all the powers from the Happy Seven group into his body as well as Kokuanten's when she feels something strange towards Amano.  Kikunosuke stops the red star & the aliens take back the red star & revive Amano.

The story ends with the school being built back by the town district's funds.  Amano's love towards Kikunosuke is still one-sided, but she doesn't mind if she gets rejected by him or not since she has close friends to keep her happy.

My Personal Review

Happy Seven isn't what I thought it would be.  I decided to watch it because it was a comedy.  Watching it, I was disappointed by it.

Animation

The character designs are average.  All the girls pretty much look the same.  The differences are only the eyes & hairstyle.  They are pretty much plain.  Kikunosuke is pretty dull as well.  He's one of the school's hot guys, but he's looks like a dimwit even with the transformation.  As for the fashion, the characters don't have much in style.  Even the transformation of the seven girls isn't too great.  It's plain & strangely enough, no fanservice.  There are times were the girls go SD, especially the Happy Station segment at the end of each episodes.  They look cute.

The backgrounds are okay.  Not a lot of details & it's dull.  Very simple & a bit blurry.

The colours are dull & bright.  The outlines on the characters & drawings are quite thick & noticeable in some areas.  There are times where the characters & the background would clash.

In terms of the animation movement, it's a mixture.  Sometimes the movements are realistic & sometimes the movements are not normal.  There are some noticeable choppy frames found in some scenes.  Most of it comes from the silly stuff.

Sound

The sound effects are really on the silly side.  Basically, making this a comedy.  The projection of the sounds aren't good at times & a bit fuzzy as well.

The seiyuus here are pretty average.  Some of them are dull & have no energy to them.  I couldn't enjoy the show much because of the performance that some of the seiyuus gave.  The seiyuu that did Amano really gave the worse performance.  At times where the character should be panicing, she does a very weak job of screaming.  It had no impact or power.

The music is mainly cute pop.  However, there's probably no songs that you would like.  They are pretty dull.

Story

Basically, the Better Fortune Research Organization fighting the Magatsugamis.  On top of that, there's Amano's love plans to get Kikunosuke.  Although there is a main storyline, it's very dry & the presentation isn't too good.  It's not because it drags, it's mainly because the poor elements & writing.  The revealing of Amano's powers came after ten episodes, but it's almost too late & it doesn't get into more details about it after that point.  From there, everything seems farfetched.

Next we have aliens & a weapon for mass destruction appearring which seems to make the show going off tangent.  Seeing all that in the last two episodes leave me dumbfounded as I asked myself, "What the hell did I just watched?"  Because of this, my view for the ending was very bad.  Although it gave Amano the feeling about the one-sided love to be okay after knowing about the club's rule, the whole space thing just sank me good.  It changed my view of the show completely.

Overall Conclusion

Happy Seven is a sleeper.  Although it does have some laughs, the jokes get old quickly.  Plus, the main story doesn't seem to go anywhere & doesn't have any elements that keeps the viewers interested.  Personally, this is a pass.

Happy Seven scores a five out of ten.  The story isn't very good due to poor elements & the characters aren't really likeable.  The whole show is very dry & fails to keep interest levels high in each episode despite it's harem like theme.  Plus, the last two episodes really makes the show look like something else despite how the ending was.
