Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

Shungo & Mayu have a tough time getting together as there is no real chemistry between the two.  Although Mayu would slowly fall for him, he doesn't have much feelings for her as he's only protecting her.  Although she is a succubus that gives her to attract men mindlessly to her & suck their life energy out, she has a fear of them which makes the situation a bit strange.  Later on in the show, Reika Hojo, a girl from their school who comes from a rich big company, doesn't like the situation between Shungo & Mayu.  She tries to break them up, only to be later become a maid to the Ninomiya household in order to get close & monitor them.  The show goes into a lot of misadventures between Shungo & Mayu with some more new characters appearing to break them up.

Throughout the show, Shungo gets dreams of his forgotten childhood memories where he played with a girl that he doesn't remember her name or face.  This would affect the show's storyline with Tasuku Okushiro appearing as he tries to get his revenge on Shungo by taking Mayu away from him.  Along the way, more succubus appear as new or existing characters. But in the final arc, Shungo remembers his past.

Shungo finally remembers that he, Mayu, & Reika played with each other during their childhood years.  However, Reika turns into someone else where she "kidnaps" Shungo for herself while Mayu is struggles for life as her life force is running low.  Escaping from Reika, Shungo tries to find Mayu by heading to the place where the three of them promised to go next time when they were children.  When he finds her in Never Ever Land amusement park, he learns how he lost his memories from Mayu & Reika when she shows up to Shungo back.  Seeing that he chooses to save Mayu over loving her, Reika orders to have him killed.  During this time, Reika gets her normal personality back over the angry one that has been taking over her body for some time.  Also, Reika becomes the one that saves Mayu by kissing her since she was transferring Shungo's life force in her to Mayu.

The show ends with everything back to normal with Mayu & Reika still battling it out over Shungo.

My Personal Review

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun is a funny ecchi series.  I picked this up because of love comedy, but it was somewhat different than I wanted.

Animation

The character designs are quite simple.  The female characters are simple & kind of cute with the large plain eyes.  But they look pretty much the same with all other female characters. Even the male characters are similar looking with others as well.

The backgrounds are okay.  Not a lot of details, but it's got a soft feel in them because of the soft dull colours.

The colours are on the soft dull side.  Even with the bright & bold parts, it's still dull.  It kind of makes the show look a bit old as if it came from the 90s, but it somehow has this manga feel to it.

In terms of the animation movement, it's a mixture.  Sometimes the movements are realistic & sometimes the movements are not normal.  But they are quite smooth with some choppy frames found.  Mainly the running parts & slow movements.

Sound

The sound effects are on the silly & realistic side.  Some of them are quite cute & funny.  They fit the show well & give it some life.

The seiyuus here are average.  I don't like Mayu's voice very much.  Although it matches her character, it can be a bit annoying afterward.  I wasn't able to adjust to it after watching more episodes.

The music is mainly the pop & ballad side.  Quite cute.  None of them are memorable though.  They escape from my head pretty easily with the exception of ending theme.  I have a bit of the starting part of the song in my head randomly coming up at times.

Story

At the start, it's kind of boring watching how Shungo is weakly getting taken away from Mayu by a group of boys or girls for some weird activity.  Seeing how awesome he is with his combat skills, I can't imagine how he can lose like that.  While he gets taken away, Mayu is left struggling on her own but manages to adapt.  It's funny to watch, but I get annoyed at times with the two main characters.  Shungo is slow & weak in reacting to situations where Mayu's in trouble & Mayu can't make a decide on her own to save Shungo or herself.  As a result, the character development is kind of weak even though we see Mayu developing feelings for Shungo.

The childhood flashbacks are nice & pretty much saves the show from falling out of a tangent.  However, the mysterious young girl is kind of easy to guess who that is given the physical appearance.  However, the surprise is shorten when the viewers learn that there are two girls instead; making the plot more weaker.  Although its got some suspense elements, the show can feel like it doesn't move much or goes back into a circle.

As for the ending, it didn't cover much.  Mayu's fear is still there & the "intense" training continues.  The only thing resolved was the recovery of Shungo's memories & Reika returning to normal.  The Reika situation wasn't explained in much depth as it came in the last arc with a bit of it shown in the summer house arc.  Either way, the plot wasn't very good at the start.

Overall Conclusion

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun isn't what I had imagine.  It is a harem anime, but it's got a fairly weak storyline & approach.  The ecchi jokes are funny, but that's pretty much it.  I would recommend watching this if you got nothing else to see.

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun gets a six out of ten.  The jokes are funny, but the story is lacking.  The characters are weak & their development is slow to null.  Although the ending wrapped up something, the show still feels incomplete.
