Information of Anime

Konosaka Inn is having poor business performance due to a competitor hotel named Hotel Moonstone stealing all its business.  Aside from trying to gain business back, Amami Haruhiko is having girl problems as Chisa Fujimiya, Yukari Kamishiro, & Rinka Hokazono start swarming over him for unknown reasons.

Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline I've seen.  This section does contain some spoilers.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

This is basically an add-on to the TV show for fanservice.  Apparently, the cause for Amani's harem is due to a mushroom when it released its properties in the air in the form of dust when they were in the kitchen.  Edo Masaki's antidote to the problem creates a strong effect on the girls when they drink it.  However, it would become useful when Riko Fukumine accidentally dispose it on the Moonstone manager who was roaming around the premises looking for his pet crocodile.  He turns his affection onto Jinta.

The story ends with the girls back to normal the next day.  However, the Moonstone manager is still affected & starts abandoning his hotel business over unsold Jinta dolls.  Before the credit roll, Masaki would tell the viewers that this story is fictional & doesn't affect the main Gift storyline.

My Personal Review

Gift ~ eternal rainbow ~ OVA is pretty much what the first part of the title suggests to fans: fanservice.  Although I didn't finish the TV show before watching this due to lack of sources of finding it, I decided to watch it for the heck of it.

Animation

The character designs are the same as the TV show.  The characters have big eyes & pointy chins.  The drawings are pretty much like rough work with the lines being a bit uneven.  During comedic moments, Amami's face would change to something out of the designs.  

The colours are pretty bright here.  Brighter than the TV show.  The colours don't overlap each other between the characters & background which is a good thing.

In terms of the animation movement, the flow was quite nice & natural.  You do get to see the occasional funny silly stuff for the jokes. 

Sound       

Same as the TV show.  The sound effects aren't too bad.  They are pretty clear & on cue.  It's got your mixture of real & comic sounds.

Same as the TV show again.  Good thing as you don't need to adapt to new voices.  The seiyuus here are average to me.  They fit their characters well. But, I'm not too fond of them mainly because of personal opinions.

The music is on the cute side with some pop & soft rock.  It's the same ones from the TV show; right down to the opening & ending themes.

Story

Basically fan harem world.  As the OVA suggests, it's not related to the TV's storyline.  It's mainly there for sexual humour.  The humour overpowers the hotel problem but gets solved with a simple situation from all this mayhem.

Overall Conclusion

Gift ~ eternal rainbow ~ should be watch for entertainment purposes.  It should not be viewed as an extra part to the original storyline as it has nothing to do with it.  However, it's advised to watch the TV show first as the jokes here won't make sense if you don't know the character backgrounds before hand.  Before if you have played the game beforehand, then watching this shouldn't be a problem.

Gift ~ eternal rainbow ~ gets a seven out of ten. It's purely fanservice as it's got nothing to do with the main storyline.  It's funny to see a harem go bad & when you actually don't want it.
