Storyline (CONTAINS SPOILERS)

Below is a summary of the storyline.  This section does contain some spoilers.  If you haven't seen the series yet & don't want to be spoiled, skip this section.  If you want to know the story & want to see how I viewed it, read on.

These specials focus on Urd & Skuld as the Yggdrasil system fails during the time Belldandy saved the city from the demon lord from episode 24.  During this time, Urd turns to a little kid, which is the focus on the first TV special episode.

In Urd's episode, she meets a young boy who falls for her.  Together, they do daring things together to overcome his shy & fearful character.  This small love ends when Urd returns back to her normal form & tells the boy who was looking for her that "Urd" return back to her country & wants him to grow up quickly.  After this problem was resolved, Skuld suddenly turns to an adult.

In Skuld's episode, she gets a day to see what it's like to be an adult as the Yggdrasil system would be restore at night.  She take Keiichi with her to experience life as an adult.  Not only does she begins to understand the difficulties of being an adult, Skuld starts to fall for Keiichi.  However, she knows this love won't happen as she transforms back to her normal self & Keiichi is in love with Belldandy.

My Personal Review

The Ah! My Goddess TV Specials are more of a side story for Urd & Skuld's love life.  It does continue from the TV show, but it just allows the viewers to get a glimpse of the love life of the other two goddesses.

Animation

The same as the TV show.  The character designs are something that I don't like.  I like the OVAs designs better.  The goddess look more older & mature than cute.  As the problems from the TV show are spread to here.  The face designs really changes a lot that it starts looking like the characters are someone else.  It's not constant.  Plus, I don't like Keiichi's design.  He's really dumber looking with his small eyes.  The OVA version makes him look more better.

The colours are still very bright here.  I have no idea why it's that bright.  It doesn't have a lot of colour tones because of this as the tones are too close & similar to each other.

In terms of the animation movement, the flow was quite nice & natural.  Pretty realistic & smooth to say the least.  However, running looks a little weird.  When adult Skuld was running, it looked like she was making small steps instead.

Sound

The same as the TV show again.  The sound effects were kind of muffled a bit when loud sounds are cued.  Other than that, it was pretty good & realistic.  Also, the silly sounds can be found here as well.

The voice actors were good as they are the same ones from the TV show.  Clear with the volume level set well.

The music is the same as the TV show & nothing new seems to been added.  It still has the same opening theme song & uses Wing as the ending theme.  The music level doesn't overpower the show with loud music.

Story

Basically side stories of Urd & Skuld's love lives under different forms.  It's interesting to see more about these goddesses backgrounds in regards of love.

Overall Conclusion

For some reason, I liked watching the Ah! My Goddess TV specials more than the TV show.  It's probably because we get to see the other two goddesses in love.  It does get boring to see Keiichi hardly making a move on Belldandy for so long & no real progress is made.  If you are fan of either Urd or Skuld or are tired of seeing how slow the relationship between Keiichi & Belldandy is moving, I would recommend watching this.

At this point, I have no idea if the specials are licensed.  But I will assume they are, since no company wants any of their series be incomplete.

The Ah! My Goddess TV specials gets a 8.5/10.  The side story of Urd & Skuld's love is a nice change of pace & helps keep the interest of the series to lead it to the second season.
