I got these figurines from my friend when I was helping him with his night market booth. I saw these figurines on the table & commented how nice it was. He told me that he'll sell them for me & save them. After I brought them at his place, it turns out his girlfriend wanted too & asked for them first. Although I tried to give them back, he said it was ok. I'm such a meanie! ^_^;
The Tokimeki Memorial 2 Figurines were actually dead stock items from Japan. However, these are very rare & are no longer produced for long time.
Some of the pictures aren't clear & good. If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them.
Tokimeki Memorial 2 Figurines out of their boxes
This isn't the full set of the Tokimeki Memorial 2 Figurines. There's 4 figurines in the set. The figurines are Hikari Honomoto (which I don't have), Miko Shirayuki, Kaori Yae, & Kasumi Asou. I don't plan on hunting for Hikari since Tokimeki Memorial products are extremely hard to find. And the year this was made, it will be big time hell to hunt it down.
I have no idea how these figurines were sold. The back of the box has a "NOT FOR SALE" label printed on, but the sides has holes you can punch out which is suitable for a UFO crane to grab on. However, the styroform inside prevents the hole to go deeper. I looked at a lot of Tokimeki Memorial 2 fan sites & the official Konami Japan sites to research on this item, but come up empty handed. They do go back to when the game first came out, but these aren't listed. I'm thinking these are promo items where people need to send in something to get them, since I rarely see Konami doing UFO prize items.
When I first picked up one of the boxes with the figurine inside, it was heavy. Looking at it from the window, I thought this was a bronze figurine. It turns out the heavy weight was actually caused by the thick styrofoam used to protect the figurine. However, the figurine is still heavy. But not heavy as I thought it would be.
Sumire from different sides
The figurines, believe it or not, aren't made of bronze. That's actually bronze paint. The figurines don't give the same weight as bronze & have a different texture feel. It's too smooth to be bronze. I have no idea what these are made of. When you hit them against each other, they make a slight hollow sound. I'm thinking they are made of resin, but they don't crack like resin under warm temperatures. Nevertheless, the material used to make them is pretty good & solid.
The poses maybe a little plain, but that's usually how bronze figures are from what I seen.
I can't believe it's not bronze!
I seriously couldn't believe these aren't bronze figurines. Look at them closely. That's really some excellent paint job & detailling. It really has that bronze look to it. The painters that painted these really put a lot of effort into them in terms of the toning. Dark around the edges, but light in the middle.
The molding job even has the bronze feel to it. It's not perfectly made like gashapon & trading figures. It's got unevenness that makes it look like they were really made from bronze materials. It's even got small air pores all over to create the rough surface appearance.
The look of bronze
The girls here are made into SD form. The faces are cute, but the eyes may be scary to some. It's just a couple of big pupils with no details. I don't know if eye details will make the figurines better or worse with the bronze effect. A lot of bronze figures don't have eyes really, so I think the molders here wanted to do the same. Overall, the faces are molded very nicely.
Overall Conclusion
The Tokimeki Memorial 2 Figurines are truly outstanding. I really enjoy them. I've had these displayed in my living & recreation rooms & never put them away.
In terms of grading, the Tokimeki Memorial 2 Figurines receives a 10/10. The bronze effect is really excellent workmanship with the magnificent molding job to create that appearance.
I strongly recommend getting these figurines if you are into bronze, Tokimeki Memorial, or like unique figures. However, like I stated in the start of this review, these will be extremely hard to get. Although Tokimeki Memorial isn't popular outside of Japan, it's highly popular there. I don't know what the prices of these figurines will cost.
