Introduction When I saw the colour prototype pic of Maya Natsume on the net, I said to myself, "I got to get that!" Although with Vol. 2 Aya Natsume, I pre-ordered them on an online store. When I discovered they were sculpted by Bome, I was wanting this figure more. I thought the Realistic Detail Figure line is new for Kaiyodo at the time, but it isn't. Maya has been virtually sold out & was reissued in July. Diamond has released this & Aya to North America at a lower price. The one I have here is the Japanese release. Some of the pictures aren't clear & good. If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them. |

The Review I really hate those blister cards. I have no idea how to open them without ruining the card. The card was too good for me to wreck the packaging. Included with Maya is the Renki & a black display base with the Tenjho Tenge logo on it in orange. You have to put the Renki in her right hand. Other than that & putting her on the base, there is no assembly required. One word: sexy! No doubt this fan service pose really reflects Maya's image. Although the clothing doesn't have much details, the black leather is more than enough for me. The tight leather pants shows her long legs well. In fact, the clothing is painted with hi-gloss black. It's really glossy & has that smooth feel to it when you touch it. Look at the pics below. I didn't use flash on my camera, but the black gloss paint really shines. I never seen a figure use that high of a gloss. Now observe the details on Maya's clothing. The gold zipper chain is painted very well that I don't see any bleeding. The way Maya lets down her jacket to her elbows is really good. The folds there look natural. Now for the Renki. The Renki measures 20cm & comes as one piece. The Renki has stunning detail work on it. The torn cloth & handle are carefully crafted & painted to the smallest detail. I'm quite amazed. Normally I don't do reviews or take pics of figurine's breasts. Reason why is I'm do tasteful reviews that's suitable for people of all ages to read. Toy companies do the best work there since that's one of the areas they want to you look at most of the time. For this figurine, I had to do it since some of the details are there. Anyways, the medals & pins there are well painted. The bra hook is designed well. In fact, I didn't notice there was some designs there until I did this review. One problem I had was the hands. The fingers on her hand in the pic above isn't molded well. A bit messy & not shaped well. Her right hand is understandable since the Renki needs to be "snapped" in that hand. Maya's facial expression was one of the reasons that I brought this figure. The paint job done there is good. The face is more like the manga version of Maya than the anime one, even though the drawings on the packaging card is the anime version. |

Overall Conclusion I'm happy purchasing the Maya Natsume figurine. It does have the sexiness that fits Maya's character. Even though it's quite plain in the colour department, the fan service was more than enough to make her sell. On a scale of ten, Maya gets a nine. The high score comes from the sexy pose & paint job quality. The lost point was from the minor workmanship on the molding such as the fingers on her hand. I would recommend getting this Maya figurine even if you aren't a TenTen fan. Between the Diamond & Japanese versions, I think the Japanese version is your best bet. My Maya has a lot of sharp areas. The star pin on her chest, the tip of her hair, & her hair antenna. The antenna are very sharp at the tip than the star pin for some reason. I can't imagine the Diamond version having these sharp points. Also, I suspect it to be in poor quality too; especially the hi-gloss paint. Finding the Japanese first release may be a problem since this has been re-released once. On August 2005, a repaint version of this Maya figurine was released. It's Vol.3 of the Realistic Detail Figure series. Instead of black leather pants, it will be white with a dragon design from the hamstring to the feet. The colour of the jacket is reversed from the original one & has a small difference. The bra will be light blue with the pins being different colours & Maya's hair is light purple. The Renki has bright colours, making it lose it's dark spirit. The display base is white to match her pants. The repaint version doesn't look too bad actually & cost the same as the original. It's almost making me feel bad on buying the original. I don't think it will be produced in limited numbers since it's volume 3 of the series. If you want a Maya that's original with the Renki displaying it's evil energy, get volume 1. If you want a Maya that's more joyful & like some design on her clothing, get volume 3. If you feel rich, get both. I may get the repaint if I can find it for a cheap price. |
