Introduction

Seeing the nice artwork of the manga Tenjhou Tenge, I wanted to own some of these works.  I managed to find this calendar for sale on eBay for a hefty price.  It became my first anime calendar from Japan.  The first anime calendar was Dragon Ball Z from a Hong Kong company.  It was official by the way.  Although expensive, I was very happy in owing the Tenten calendar.

Some of the pictures aren't clear & good.  If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them.

The Review

2005 Tenjho Tenge Calendar Box

The 2005 Tenjho Tenge calendar comes in a large plain white box.  Open the box & you will see a hot pink & black folio similar to art folios inside. Open it up & you get your calendar wrapped in the bottom with a tissue like paper.  The calendar is a canvas style format.

There are seven sheets with six of them covering two months.  It covers the entire year of 2005 from January to December.

As you can see, the character designs are again the manga version.  All of them are focused on Aya & Maya Natsume in her adult form.  None  of the illustrations are new as they are past works.  However, the presentation of them on hard paper makes the artworks shine.  It truly makes the illustrations look like brushworks & the colours used really give off that feeling.

The problem with this calendar is how to display it.  The calendar gives you nothing to display it.  No stand, no hanger, nothing.  It's a shame to punch a pinhole on the paper just to hang it up or damage it.  I used a puzzle frame to display the calendar on the wall.  It was very hard to find the right frame size to put the calendar in as it would be custom made & very expensive.

Overall Conclusion

The 2005 Tenjho Tenge calendar is art of beauty.  The drawings are quite wonderful & gives off a sense of brush artwork.  I was hoping for another Tenjho Tenge to come for 2006 but it never happened.

On a scale of ten, I give the 2005 Tenjho Tenge calendar a nine.  The high score comes from the beautiful artwork in terms of the designs & paper used.  Plus the presentation of how the calendar is stored is wonderful.  The lost point is from the reused artwork & how there is two months per sheet.  But the major downfall is how to display the calendar.  It has nothing to present the beauty of the calendar & it's a major shame.

If you are major fan of Tenjho Tenge & love the artwork from the manga, this calendar is a must have!  Even if you don't like using calendars, I would suggest keeping it as artwork & it looks great in a frame.  Of course, this calendar is most likely produced on the first production run & is out of print.  Aside from where I got it from, this calendar is quite hard to find.  Very hard.
