Introduction The Asuka & Rei Eva Pinkys are the first Pinkys in Pinky Cos product line series. They are also the first Pinkys to be made from an anime, manga, or video game design. These Pinkys were sold out very fast & were reissued twice. Diamond Comics has imported these Pinkys to North America & the prices are the same as the Japanese retail price. This one is the first release & I got them from an online auction when they were impossible to get from stores. Some of the pictures aren't clear & good. If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them. |

The Review
The packaging for Pinky Asuka & Rei is a bit different from the standard ones. The card has been drawn to match the Eva theme. The accessories included for these Pinkys are two backpacks, an angel on a knife, & an angel on the spear. The assembly is very minor & easy. For the backpack, you need to remove their heads first in order to place them on their bodies. I had some problems with the spear as it kept falling out of Rei's hands. I had to jam it up there good to make it stay put.
The clothing here is mainly street style of Asuka & Rei's plugsuits. Baggy pants, a T-shirt, a wristband, & boots. The backpacks with their plugsuit number is pretty cool. The way they stand is pretty plain when you look at it from the front. Looking at the back it's kind of unique & weird as the pics above suggest. Asuka & Rei's body lean to their right while their legs maintain a straight posture. It's pretty interesting really, but yet a bit unreal. The paint job of Pinky Asuka & Rei is pretty good. Some minor bleeding, but nothing serious. The details of the shirts are etched in & they are quite sharp in terms of the colours used. For the people that like to customize their Pinkys, Asuka's pigtails are removable & come with those headgears. Rei's front hair is a problem to some people. A lot of people want that piece to customize on their Pinkys since it's very unique, but it comes with those headgears. As a result, you need to cut them off. Some people buy an extra set of the Eva Pinkys because of this very reason. The angels being stabbed by the weapons are kind of hard to make out. The one on the knife is hard to determine what angel that is. The one on the spear looks like a briefcase when you look at it from the side. The paint job on these angels are pretty good & the bleedings blend in very well that you can't really determine if there are paint bleeds.
The faces of Asuka & Rei seem to match their character well. Rei's face does have that famous poker face expression from the series. Asuka's face was a bit hard for me to get use to. It does seem to resemble her face from the anime series, but it took some time to get use to. It did have that cunning attitude face that fits Asuka's character. Maybe I'm just not use to seeing a Pinky version of Asuka's face. Anyways, the paint & detail job on Asuka & Rei's face is excellent. Very clean with no signs of bleeding. Also, the eyes are shaped different to distinguish their faces. |

Overall Conclusion The Asuka & Rei Pinkys are truly worthy to collect. They are well designed with that Pinky Street touch. The slight problem with them is not having an extra body, which was offered in other later special Pinkys for a brief moment. The test score that Asuka & Rei receive is nine out of ten. The Pinky Street style & Eva theme was really well planned out. It definitely has that Pinky style feel to it without losing that Eva look. The lost point was basically from the spear problem that couldn't be held still in Rei's hand & not having more accessories to play with. Looking for the Eva Pinky can be a bit of a challenge now if you are looking for the Japanese version. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of the Diamond versions floating around stores. Of course, I would go for the Japanese ones over the Diamond ones mainly because of the quality. Since there is very little price difference, getting the Japanese one isn't too bad unless you don't mind paying for the shipping. I don't expect the price value of the Japanese version to go up since Diamond will most likely release more of them when demand is high. You might be able to get them at a low price. Also, there are now different Pinky forms of these girls since the Renewal project was announced. Thus, more choices & selection of these girls appeared. |
