Introduction Back in the time when Love Hina was very popular due to the anime show, a lot of Love Hina stuff was released. EPOCH's C-Works SkyLuu Project was one of them. It released six SkyLuv Projects in Love Hina series & was working with Kaiyodo. Mutsumi Otohime is the fifth figurine to be released. When I first saw these figurines, I wanted them cause they looked cool. At the time, I was too poor to afford them. It was over years later that I brought some of them at J-Hobby in the discount bin. I grabbed whatever SkyLuv Project figurines were left & Mitsune was one of them. There is a Diamond version released in North America as well. But, I don't think this was re-issued in Japan when the Diamond version became available. |

The Review
Mutsumi doesn't have a lot of things to play with. She's mainly a "dress her up" type of figurine. Mutsumi comes with a two piece overcoat, boots, a pair of sunflower sandals, an apron, a watermelon, & a butcher knife. She's really limited. Let's look at some details. There isn't much details here since a lot of Mutsumi's clothing is pretty much one colour with no designs on them. Nevertheless, it's pretty good. To dress Mutsumi from her revealing swimsuit that looks kind of weird to other clothing, you pretty much use the peg system. The overcoat clothing breaks in half from the middle on the sides as well as the boots. For the apron, I have no idea how it works. Seeing some holes on the side, I assume it uses some sort of pegging system as well. Once you have it on her, you can have that sexy semi-naked apron effect. If you are wondering, the melon does break in half. As for the articulations on Mutsumi, I have no idea how good it is. Based on what I seen on the figurine, the head, & arms are moveable. Very little articulations here. The facial expression that Mutsumi has really captures her character well & is very similar to the original anime design. It has that somewhat dreamy look & happy characteristic. Plus, the etching job is well done. But, I can't get over the fact about those brown lines above her eyes to create that eye shaping. I personally don't like those effects very much. |

Overall Conclusion I can't grade the SkyLuv Project Love Hina #5 Mutsumi Otohime figurine since she's still in her blister card. I don't know how good the articulation is & the stability of it. Plus, I sold her away in order to clean my closet. If you are looking for this Mutsumi figurine, you would have to look hard to it. Even though it's old & the price for it has dropped, it's not an easy find; especially if you are looking for the whole set. This figurine use to come up a bit on online auctions in the past, but now it's virtually not there anymore. I haven't seen this figurine for a long time now in a lot of stores & I think she is one of the hardest to find. That's including the Diamond version as well. I'm not too sure what differences that the Diamond & Japanese version have. |
