Introduction I brought the Capcom Gals Collection 2 gashapons from J-Hobby. After seeing what happened to part 1, I figured part 2 would be hard to get later in the future. What attracted me to it was Lilith being in the series. There have been no reissues of this set since its release. I have sold this set away due to a lot of interest in them. |

The Review
The Capcom Gals Collection 2 gashapon contains characters from Capcom's fighting game lineups. There are a set of five figurines. There are Sakura, Lilith, Chun Li, Juli, Ibuki, & an unknown character to me.
The poses of each of the girls are mainly static poses with little "motions". They are quite natural & nothing fancy or out of this world. Each comes with a custom base for hold the girls up, but some bases aren't too good as they don't seem to support the girl's weight & aren't molded well. Take the unknown girl's base for example. The base that this unknown girl stands on is a robotic hand. I'm not familiar with the Star Gladiator games, so I don't know the name of the robot if there is one. As you can see, the bottom of the base is a bit rounded. There were times when she would fall forward or backwards, depending how her weight shifts. Another base problem is Juli's. She can't stand properly at times because the base that attaches to her right leg causes her to lean forward somehow, which lifts up her left leg from the ground. This can probably be fixed with the "hot water bending" method to get her standing straight. For assembly, it's pretty easy. But some of the girls have a lot of parts than others; mainly the hair, legs, & base. I found Ibuki to be the most time consuming &, to my surprise, difficult to assemble. Almost all her large body parts need to be put together. Second was Chun Li; mainly from the bao baos on her head. Some of the girls have quite a lot of details on their clothing, which means there should be a lot of detail painting involved. A lot of girls' clothing have some paint bleeds here & there. Some of the bleeds are pretty bad, while most are minor. You wouldn't be able to see these from a distance. The spiral mark on the unknown girl's chest is etched in clean. Also, there are some spots that are incomplete, such as the gold trimmings on the back of Chun Li's clothes. Speaking of Chun Li's clothing, I noticed for the first time that there are pattern designs molded on her white waist strap. It's molded pretty well for something that small. Another molded part to talk about is Juli's left hand. In the gashapon paper, her hand touches her waist. The figurine here doesn't. It forward moves by itself. This can probably be fitted with the heat bend methods, but I didn't have the time to do it. But it may be that Juli's hand is actually designed to be that way.
All the girls resemble their game counterparts very well, especially Juli. Chun Li may be an exception. Most of the Capcom games she's in has her eyes round. The eyes here look more realistic & very Asian, which isn't bad. The paint jobs here isn't too hot on the lips & mouths. The red is painted in too thick & wide. The eyes aren't too bad even though there are some incomplete spots near the flesh colour. The facial expressions are so-so to me. They are quite lively, but they don't give me a lot of energy that I would like from them. Also, some of their expressions don't match well with their character, such as Chun Li. She looks a bit too mean. |

Overall Conclusion The Capcom Gals Collection 2 gashapon figurines aren't really a good or bad set. It's basically normal that you don't necessary need to be a die-hard fan to Capcom to get it. The poses are natural & can be easily related to the girl's personalities & characters. I had these put on display when I first brought them & store them away for a long time. I sold them & are no longer part of my collection. I give the Capcom Gals Collection 2 gashapon set a 7/10. The poses are quite nice, but a bit plain at times. Also, there are issues about the base stability for Juli & the unknown girl. On the positive side, the paint job isn't too bad for the price of these figurines. Plus, their faces are almost exactly the same as their game designs. Looking for these gashapon figurines shouldn't be a problem. I have seen these around in a lot of places & the market prices for them are lower than the retail price. Personally, I won't really recommend buying it unless you want to try something new or have a few amount of cash to spend on something. |
