Introduction I brought this CLANNAD 1/8 Sakagami Tomoyo PVC figurine after a long time thinking about it. Originally, I was going to get the 1/8 Furukawa Nagisa PVC figurine after months of thinking it over. But when I saw it gone from J-Hobby, I decided to get Tomoyo right away since for some reason a lot of people were buying old PVC figurines from him like crazy. Although I don't know much about CLANNAD, I am a fan to KEY's works. This Sakagmai Tomoyo figurine is based on the resin garage kit that Kotobukiya produced back in October 2005. The resin kit is now sold out & there is no reproduction of it. Tomoyo is a bit bigger in the resin kit by 0.5cm. Some of the pictures aren't clear & good. If I have time, I'll redo the bad ones & repost them. |

The Review Tomoyo comes with some minor accessories. Aside with the custom base, she has a lid for the pot she has in her hands. The display base has the designs of a laminated flooring. Although it's pretty fake looking, it adds some touches to the figurine. The pose is a bit on the non-static side. It's as if she's just turning around after being called. It's a bit plain & a little lifeless. This was one reason why I hesitated about buying this figurine. In terms of the paint job, it's pretty good even though it's mainly one colour on Sakagami's clothing. Dark ones too. But there are some nice toning on the paint work, especially the skin. Very minimal paint bleeds as well. Also, the detail on the stew is pretty much average as it looks really plain & fake. The bear slippers on Tomoyo's feet aren't bad although there is a minor mistake on the right slipper where the painter put a dot on the brown. Most likely a manufacturer problem on this figurine alone since it's mass produced. For molding, the hair is beautifully done. You can't see it when Sakagami is in the box. The hair strands are separated well and look very complex with the overlapping & crossing on some areas. Also, the tips are quite sharp. You do see some molding lines on some areas though. Another molding line problem is the pot. I couldn't believe that the manufacturers had that line sticking out in the front when they could have hidden it on the back close to Sakagami's chest. The pot lid could have been made better too to allow it to cover the pot properly. As you can see in the pic, the lid doesn't close the pot completely due to the ladle. If you think about it, it makes sense to do it this way since you can't completely cover a pot with some cooking utensil sticking out of it. But, it would be nice to have it close completely to avoid losing the lid. As for other molding details, the shaping of the clothing isn't bad as you can see the wrinkles & folds. The laminated floor is pretty fake looking as it's basically a sticker stuck on the base surface. It makes it look out of place with the figurine. Tomoyo's face does have that KEY touch. Although there isn't much expression on her face, I'm not sure if it matches her character since I don't know much about CLANNAD. The detailing is good in terms of the etching as there were no noticeable problems. Very clean. |

Overall Conclusion Sakagami Tomoyo isn't something you can really rejoice about. It's pretty plain & doesn't have a lot of energy. It's not really an item you can brag about really. But, it's pretty calm as well. Currently, I have Tomoyo displayed on a closed cased shelf in my dining room. Probably don't have plans to put her back into the box, but I may move her around in the future. I rate Sakagami Tomoyo a 7.5/10. It's pretty dull with little life to it. The workmanship is excellent with the detailing of the clothing & hair strands. However, there was some noticeable painting problems on some areas of the figurine, but that seems to be a problem on my figurine only as it's a mass produced product. This Sakagami Tomoyo figurine may be hard to find due to the anime when it was released. For some reason, the reproduction series had a massive amount of pre-orders after CLANNAD was announced to be produced as an anime movie & TV show. If you are fan of CLANNAD or KEY's works, this is probably something you don't want to miss. As for the pricing, I don't see it increasing. The most I can say is that it will decrease instead. When the reproduction version was released, the suggested Japanese retail price went up. Plus, the packaging box was redone & I didn't like it. As a bonus, a magnet ribbon was included. |
